Over the years I've converted a few southern heathens to the northern way of eating Christmas cake with cheese on top.

If you ain't tried it, then give it a go. Dead scrummy.

How do you eat yours?

Only a proper northerner knows where north starts :)
Well I am a northerner but front the proper side of the Pennines. I've heard of it and tried it but I prefer mustard with my cheese and Christmas cake is pleasure enough. However, Christmas pudding is something else.

Nooooooooo. Not Christmas pudding with cheese. I'm not that bloody northern.
Good matured Christmas pudding.
Doesn't need anything else except years of maturing nd real alcohol

I eat fruit cake with cheese all the time.

I don't eat Christmas cake though because I hate marzipan and icing.

Always with cheese. For years cheese of choice was Wensleydale but a few years ago discovered how well Stilton goes with it.

The saltiness of the Stilton against the sweet richness of the cake is to my palate a delight.

Also love bacon, pancakes and maple syrup for the same reason. A coomon combo in the States and sounds awful but would recommend anyone to give it a go!

I have often found that the peoples living to the West of the Pennines are unaccustomed to good culinary practice. They are also a little daunted when in the presence of a Yorkshireman, but especially at this time of the year I try to be kind and compassionate, and offer up to them Wensleydale and Christmas Cake.
Once they have summoned the courage to taste they are invariably passionate converts and beg for further culinary advice and Yorkshire produce.

For me its pleasure enough on its own with a nice cup of tea, with perhaps a drop of scotch in is even better.

Christmas cake with Wensleydale brings memories of Boxing Day at my grandma's house in Leeds in the 50's and 60's. There was always a plate of Wensleydale cubes, laid out on the scrubbed wooden table next to grandma's home made Christmas cake. I remember it as the best Christmas cake ever - but sadly the recipe was never written down. She kept it in her head, and it went to the grave with her.

Ah yes, the world renown Yorkshire culinary expertise.
Yes I've had a few 'yorkshire' delights but I respect my body and bodily functions to experiment any more.
No, in all fairness, I have tried with a variety of cheeses on Christmas cake but I can edge towards Stilton and it's fairly nice with Wensleydale but I think it takes away from a decent Christmas cake. If the cake is not of superior quality then it's probably best with cheese but with icing and marzipan removed so a rich fruit cake with cheese.
However, if that's the best of Yorkshire!

The missus did another roasty tonight and there was some gravy left over.

She knows what I like and she fetched me some bread to mop it up with.
