We are thinking of buying a portable folding panel around 100w, it can be moved around to face the sun + if we change the MH we can keep the panel for the new one, any one use a folding type?

Too much hassle, as they sit at an angle to get max benefit from them you have to be around and move is several times a day, probably need to chain it up when you go out, they cost more than a standard panel.
With panels so cheap now, easier to fit a panel on the roof and forget it. Can still remove a fixed one when you change van but leaving it on gives another selling point & when you get a new van it's nice to fit a shinny new panel to it.

Been looking at fitting about 150-200 watt of solar and been doing some research. Andy (@Techno100) has been of great benefit as has other. I've laid the cables and the controller and have the layout on the roof sorted. Just the solar panels to add now.
Maybe a thread of how and the steps needed to add the panels would have been an idea but the same as all projects I do I never take pictures.
It's actually quite straightforward and within the ability of any good DIYer.

We had a mobile fitter recently to repair our m/h fridge, cost £86.00 he quoted £450 to fit a 120w panel on top, local dealer Pedleys wanted over £500 think we will stick to hook up sites, managed for 40 years without one!

Anyone with a bit of savvy can fit a basic system for well less than £200 ,it is easy ,If anyone can check a route for cables get onto your motor home roof and can read you should not have a problem, get the satisfaction of doing it yourself and if you have a minor problem ,there is always someone on the forum that can advise . GO for it lol.

Any mobile operator has vehicle overheads, fuel , travel time both ways and time procuring materials loading unloading and warranty before striking a bat. I think you are way under estimate Lenny IMHO unless you mean plus materials

The guy that fitted my alarm (and one on last van) for a 100 w panel with a basic regulator charges £325, about £375 with a good regulator, only fits the cheap ones if customer is penny pinching and his standard of work is very good, he spent nearly all day fitting my alarm I wouldn't have done it for what he charged me.

Anyone who can connect a battery can easily understand and fit solar it is that simple ,and that is a female

So you can see that the panels will out live your ownership possibly i was only trying to help those who have not got solar and Mike at bimble is more than helpful

you are lso helping those that don't have a shed lode of cash to throw at them I think one of them would charge my battery's fine thank for the lead
