If you want to try out a motorhome to see if you like it, there is a Groupon currently available for halfprice (and better) motorhome hire - see

The penalties for late return and mileage in excess of 100 per day are pretty horrific, read terms and conditions..................

Diesels dear at £1-80 per litre and gas is gold plated and god help you if it has a scratch, better off to hire normally and if you like it buy one and get a refund.

The company is http://www.unbeatablehire.com/ otherwise known as Motorholme of Cambridge: Link Removed

Not unusual to have to pay high premium on fuel required to re-fill vehicle if not returned with same amount as when collected ie full in this case.

Won't comment much on the other terms and conditions, other than to say they can be onerous with other motorhome hire contracts too. However, Motorholme probably are about the most stringent in the business. And a search of the internet might reveal some interesting stories concerning return of deposits etc.....

After seeing the previous poster linking this site to Motorholme I would recommend you look elsewhere –

Motorhome forums are littered with reports and reviews of the Motorholme company which do not show them in a good light.

If you still wish to proceed -

I can see a few slight problems with the hire terms.

Only 100 miles per day before being charged £1.38 per mile extra – so that cuts down on the quick run to the South of France!

Or unlimited mileage for £24 per day extra - £168 per week if you intend travelling any meaningful distance.

Extra charges if a driver is 70 or over.

You can only pick up the MH after 3 PM on the day you pick it up – which restricts how far you can travel that day - and it has to be returned by 10 AM on the last day which restricts how far you can be from the Hirers premises on that day.

A three day hire only gives one full day on the road and if you go over 100 miles you pay extra.
A six day hire only gives 4 days travelling.

£25 per HOUR for late returns – let's hope their isn't a Motorway accident or Cross Channel problem on your way back!

Bring your own table and chairs, a must have in Summer, or pay extra.

You get the drift?

I've hired MH's over the last three years from local Hirers and the terms and excess charges that apply on this site seem to be excessive.

If I was still in the process of hiring, we have recently bought our own MH, I would certainly think twice or more before signing up with them.

We just charge the normal price of diesel locally if tank is not full, yes we charge extra for late returns.

'In the event of the vehicle being retained beyond the agreed time the extra period will be charged at £100 per day or part thereof, plus the normal daily rental charge. Hirers are warned that in this event they will be running the vehicle uninsured and are liable to criminal prosecution'
