Hi all,
can anyone enlighten me on weight limit upgrades, can any 3500kg motorhome be uprated to carry more weight and if so how? If so are there any down sides to doing this ?

If you do upgrade over 3500kg check your driving licence for correct grades as over 3500kg you need C1 etc

It's easier to do if the van has been downplated by the manufacturer to fall into the 3500kg class. Had a Chausson once and as that was on a Renault Cab/Chassis it was only a paper exercise to raise it to 3.8t from 3.5.

We used SV Tech at Leyland and found them very good----give em a ring

We had ours up-rated to 3850Kg but to do so we had to put air suspension on the rear and bigger rear tyres

Give SvTech a ring and talk it over with them. They will give you sound advice and may be able to tell you if it can be done and if you need any mods. But as above, check your licence entitles you to drive over 3500kg first.

manyvan chassis are rated higher than on the vin plate but to comply with the law they are downplated to 3500kg so Bob the builder can drive it on his car licence.

no point churning out 4500kg vehicles if the vast majority of younger drivers dont have the correct licence.

companies such as SVTech already know the maximum design weights for most chassis through previous research and experience so they know any upgrades to tyres , brakes and/or suspension which may be needed for a given weight upgrade.

as already said by Peter....over 3500kg you need a C1 licence category.

if you took your car test prior to jan 1997 you should already have C1....after that date you need to take a C1 test.
