Charging my laptop (1 Viewer)

Unlike my old net book which charged up quite easily, I seem to be unable to charge my new Windows 10 laptop from the 12v system in the van. I bought some new charging cables and tips, but no joy. Has anyone got any ideas on this or will I have to buy a small inverter??

I bought one of these which worked for me but only 80 Watts which may not be adequate for your laptop:

Check what the input voltage and current draw is required by your laptop. Mine is 20 volts and 2.25 amps.

I change my wife's laptop via an inverter that I bought from Maplins for about £70. I bought it to charge my electric toothbrush and my razor while we're away so not specifically for the laptop - but it does the job! It's this one and I see that it's gone up in price a bit!

Just remembered, this inverter is not man enough to charge the laptop while it's being used - but does it perfectly well when the lid is down.

@Viennese,

I got our 12v DC-240v AC, 90W Laptop Charger from Maplins, however, I can't find it for you, on their website. It was around the £37 mark.

We've been using it for some years now, and although it will charge whilst using the laptop, less amps are drawn from the batteries when charging with the lid down, as @Bill_OR made reference to above, regarding charging via his inverter.

Your lap top MIGHT need a PSW inverter to charge properly - the Aldi one is MSW so may not work, but it might so worth checking. (But don't use it to charge a rechargeable toothbrush!)

Perhaps your laptop supplier can advise you. If you have a rechargeable toothbrush that you also want to charge via an inverter then go straight for the pure sine wave option as the other type not only don't charge the toothbrush, they destroy it!

Just Google "Lenovo Yoga 510 12 volt car charger" and there are several listed. Check with the seller first that it will work with your model.

My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad and the power plug into the laptop is a rectangular USB looking shape.
The 12 volt charger I'm using is this one which can power various laptops due to the different leads supplied.

The manufactures are British (now there's a surprise) and have a Northampton phone number and they should be able to tell you if it is suitable for your laptop or if they can supply a lead that will

Ah, I feel better already! Although I have no idea how I attach it up in the van. Looking at the pic, I imagine I'll have to take the floor up in front of the passenger seat! Perhaps you will give me a lesson Brian!

It sounds easy but that may not be the case depending where your batteries are. Just for doing a bit of charging you can use engine or leisure battery.

Failure is not an option it says somewhere round here.
