Hi, I am looking into changing the steel wheels to alloys on my 2001 Fiat Ducato 2.8jtd based Autotrail Cheyenne. Two reasons, I think they will look smarter, and I am hopeing for a weight saving for 4 + spare on my payload. Any thoughts would be great. I live in North Devon
What weight saving could I expect?
    Whats the likely cost?
Wheres the best place to get them?

I would have thought that most of a wheels weight is the tyre so you may not save many kg by changing to alloys, but I'm sure they would look smarter.

The motorhome might look smarter but don't waste your money, steel wheels are far more reliable as far as sealing round the rims are concerned.

The difference in weight is minimal.. and there are other issues as mentioned

Not worth the money time and effort in my opinion

Also, insurers are not keen on non original alloys

as said above, there will be little saving for payload. ans the cost will be big.

i also agree that the insurance companies see non standard alloy wheels as a risk.

As long as you get the right alloys ie rated for the weight of your vehicle in the scheme of things the cost is very little
I bought my present motor home with steel wheels could not live with wheel trims so got 6 new alloys fitted for 530
After all want it to look the part:Blush:
Wife says can't see them from in here

    Alloys? Pfft!

My Mercedes based Autotrail has genuine Mercedes alloys, presumeably as part of the original SE pack ordered by the original owner.

I wish they hadn't bothered.... I've already been hit with the sealing issue mentioned; when I had new tyres fitted one of the original locking nuts broke off which was a hassle to sort out and the end result is that I now have no locking nuts!

If you wanna spend some cash, just get your existing steelies blasted and re-sprayed to look like new!

This is a company who specialise in alloys for commercial vehicles. It's worth having a look on their website to get an idea of the styles available and prices. If you see an example that you like and there is a camera icon alongside, there are photos of motorhomes that they have fitted alloys to.

Brand new genuine Fiat 16" inch wheel trim for the Fiat Ducato 1994-2006
I bought some of these, the nuts pass through the trim so they can't be nicked or fall off !
They look the part when fitted, just under £100 for 4 .

Buy some nice trims, much better option if it's just cosmetic.
Weight; negligible and you would need to do a million miles to pay for them in diesel.
