    Hi Everyone,

In preparation for our Summer holiday, we're having a 'dry run' in June - a short weekend away with our friends and all our children.

We need a recommendation on where to stay. My brain has melted searching the internet. Can any of you help? :helpsos:

Our needs: (as many of the following as possible I think)

Hard-standing (I think it would be wise, don't you)
Electric hook-up (for the sake of practice if nothing else)
Somewhere roughly equidistant midway between Leeds and Haywards Heath
    A babbling brook (his requirement)
An on-site or close-by public house or 2, or 3 (collective male requirement)
A wood to yomp through and / or cycling routes to take
    Something for the children (Ages 8, 6, 6, 3 & 1)
Some sort of means of getting provisions etc (since, as 'newbies' we're bound to forget something)
BBQ and / or open fire (optional)

I do hope that covers everything.

So far my research has uncovered the following:

Meadowsweet Farm - very small, access might be tricky in a Burstner Elegance

    LE15 8QX - From Leeds - 2hr 30m, From Hayward's Heath - 3hr

    http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=11575

The Green Man PH - right behind a CAMRA approved pub. No hard-standing or electric hook-up though.

    CV47 9PW - From Leeds - 2hr 30m , From Haywards Heath - 2hr 30m

    www.greenmanlongitchington.co.uk/index.html
    Reviews are here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=7107

Conkers - right next door to the National Forest Visitor Centre - http://www.visitconkers.com/ (which seems to have, amongst other things, a large adventure playground). Looks like it might be a bit 'exposed' if it's windy.

    DE12 6BD - From Leeds - 2hr, From Haywards Heath - 3hr

    http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/siteseekerlite/aspx/details.aspx?id=7105

Callow Top Holiday Park - Appears to have a micro-brewery on site! http://www.callowtop.co.uk/

    DE6 2AQ - From Leeds - 2hr, From Haywards Heath - 3hr 30m

Here's hoping someone out there can come to my rescue.

    Thanks in advance!

If you go here take the bikes the trail is excellent or for a walk

conkers just down the road from me and a no from me, not much there, and if windy round the canal basin its like the North Pole

my advice callow top but you will need to book early as its full at that time of year and its not cheap

its here http://www.peakdistrictinformation.com/towns/ashbourne.php go on geography and maps and select something then click 360 degree view

Just been reading all your info on the sites in Derbyshire:thumb:

I would very much like to try to get to Matlock and go and experience one of Charles Hanson's auctions some time soon. So we may very well ask your advice on this in the future:Laughing:

You could try the Cotswolds. There is a Caravan Club site in Moreton in marsh

I would think that's about 3 hours from Leeds and 2.5 hours from West Sussex.

Don't remember there being a babbling brook but I think it meets the rest of your criteria.

Really nice little town with an old fashioned toy shop the kids will love nearly as much as the adults.

It might be worth a look.

I sometimes take the dog a walk around the canal basin and it is cold there even in summer some days:Rofl1:

I also stayed at Conkers for a few days this January - bleak and blasted just about sums it up! The term 'National Forest' lulls you into imagining you'll be surrounded by sheltering trees. Lots of trees ......... but most of 'em are shorter than I am!

    Wardens were lovely tho'.
