Stayed there in the spring last year, nice site about a 15 min walk into town, chip van calls, I think, on a Friday evening, friendly staff, right on the edge of the lake.

Quite a large site but made up of small clearings, easy walks in either direction, Coniston one way and a small village called Torver the other way, nothing in Torver but a couple of pubs. If comming via the A5084, there are a couple of tight narrow bends, .

Nice site. Stayed there this spring, very large and a 30 minute walk into town.

I live a few minutes from here. It's a nice site but a bit shady . Easy access down to the lake through the site. 20 to 30 mins walk into town. There is a bus to ulverston that stops in the entrance. Buses from the village centre to go Ambleside and beyond. If you have a dinghy the sailing club is a few minutes walk and accepts temp members. Any more questions just shout out

We've stayed there a few times & its very peaceful. We slept with the windows wide open listening to the wildlife, foxes badgers etc & loved it. The walk to Coniston itself is a fair trek but the walk back was very convivial lol. Easy access to the lake itself too. So in essence if you like the things we've described you'd enjoy it.
Oh & a van comes round that does fish & chips, but I cannot remember which nights they are there.

Thank you guys for the feedback it is appreciated .Being one of the unfortunates that has to take his work away with him could anyone say what the phone and satellite signals are like please?.when you say shady does that mean it is thick with trees?

There are lots of tree's & in hot weather its usually easy to find a shady pitch. However, lots of the glades are lovely open spaces that are bright & breezy. Can't help with the phone of Wifi signal though sorry.

We use o2. Vodaphone and 3 seem to be ok little or no 4g except three.

Hi stagman don't know if you remember us but we were parked just behind you at Peterborough thanks for your feedback. What's the phone signal like there pls? And is satellite ok?

In answer t your question, Vodafone 2-3 bars and GPRS...sometimes but unreliable.
We bought a years wifi from CC so using that. We are half way down the site surrounded by trees. Can be a little noisy from dropping acorns on the roof and the rain but very nice site. Not do uniform if you know what I mean...

Only walk to Coniston using lakeside route. The other way (from reception) spits you out onto the main road with no footpath. We learned the hard way on day one

We use the site often. Once we went around Easter and it was crowded and we struggled to find a decent free pitch. Every other time we've been, it has been pretty quiet.
There are two ways to walk into Coniston. The top route is the shorter one which follows the old railway line which is a permissive path. There's a very short section where you have to walk along the road but other than that it's off road (although can get a bit muddy). The slightly longer way is through the bottom of the site to the lake and follow the path through Coniston Hall.
There are plenty of longer great walks from site including up the Old Man of Coniston and lower level walks into Torver.
In the village, we like The Sun Inn and The Black Bull as both are dog friendly and good food and beer.

Hi - We visited friends there while we were staying at a CL nearby in Torver. Absolutely hated it! We never stay on CC sites - to big for us! But our friends, who always stay on CC sites, also hated it. Just like a big car park surrounded by trees! (Good if you are fell walking 'cos you can't see hundreds of vans but no views from the pitches we saw at all!). We have spend many weeks in the Lakes and tried or looked at all the sites - commercial, CC, C &CC, CLs and CSs. The best we have found is Threlkeld Hall (just off A66 east of Keswick). Small new site - only 12 vans but easy access, fab views, walks from site, spotless facilities (tho at present only 2 loos and 2 showers - more in the pipeline - so to speak), lovely owners. It's over £20 a night but well worth it.
