Carver water heater (1 Viewer)

I just bought a Swift Royale. The Carver water heater is pouring water to the outside world. Fault finder says Drain open or fast drain open. Checked both all closed, still pouring water to the outside world. I presume no one is going to give me good news here.

When I had one of these it had a major leak which took some finding. In my case it was a crack in one of the plastic adaptors where the hoses fit on. You can (or at least could then) buy the part quite cheaply. Actually fitting it was a bit awkward as they tend to snap off when you try to remove them.

I had a similar problem with my Royale 610. I found Arc Systems who specialise in their repair. His website has downloadable instructions and drawings for Carver products and will answer any queries you may have. In the end, i sent him the whole heater and he replaced the faulty bits for me and tested everything. I don't remember how much it cost but I do remember that it was worth every penny.

Hi there Trikimiki----I am in the process of fixing the same insert on my van it litterly broke off in my hand. In my case it was the top fitting which is hot water. The bottom one is cold water. If this is the case if you go on to E-bay you will get one for just over £6.00. When it broke off I had to get a small hacksaw blade and cut two slots in the plastic that was still in the heater then got a large screwdriver and unscrewed it. At present waiting for new one to be delivered.

I am in the process of fixing the same position on my van it latterly divided off in my part. In my scenario it was the top appropriate which is hot water. The end one is cold water.

if it is not the drain plug lower left on the outside, or the pressure relief valve top left if fitted. or either the cold inlet or hot outlet has cracked / broken. then it only really leaves the main tank seal, if at sometime the boiler has frozen the long bolt that runs through the centre of the tank stretches, you will have to remove the tank fit a new o ring and a new bolt. Carver no longer make these boilers so parts might be a bit hit & miss. there are copies being made called "Henry" pretty sure the parts are interchangable.

Another point, if any of the plastic fittings do snap off when you try to remove them (pretty common) the easyiest way I found to remove them was to heat a flat screwdriver that just fits inside the thread and push it into the fitting melting it's way into the plastic, once cooled down a bit you should be able to twist the fitting out

My problem was exactly the same, but easier solution. Heat large flat screwdriver on gas ring, while still hot push it into the fitting when it will make two slots, wait till it cools and hardens then unscrew.

if the leak is outside the van from the bottom left plug(fast drain), it could be as simple as a perished O ring. Easily obtained and coat with a little vaseline or vegetable oil when reassembling. I always used to carry spares for the O ring and plug in my tool box when I had vans fitted with that water heater
