In 2013 we were touring the south of France and this place was recommenced to us as a must see.
Certainly worth visiting and I would advise taking the guided tour to get the history of this magnificent structure.
Personally, I was a little disappointed once we entered the city walls as it has been transformed into a giant commercial enterprise and clearly targeting tourists. Still worth the visit though and more details here. : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcassonne
