Are there two aires at Carcassonne. The one in all the Aires book signed p2 is this the same place as the camping cars area shown on the camping cite carcass one.com site. If it is different do you have to pre book. Any info on best place to stay for Carcassonne much appreciated, thanks

I have always parked at the side of the river in Carcassonne. If you are travelling north to south, immediately you have crossed the river, turn sharp right. Go down the ramp and if you cannot park on the carpark immediately in front then turn left along the river. There is a carpark just as you have turned left and several places down there to park.

Not been there but Searchforsites shows 2 aires:

The 2nd is outside the campsite. I doubt if you can book either - they're aires!

P2 is a large car park with a service point within walking distance of the old city. No shade, can be very hot on a hot day.

http://www.campingcitecarcassonne.com/ is a campsite a bit further away. I'm pretty certain we've been there and seem to recall a shuttle bus service to the old city. Their website has a tab linking to another 38 bay aire that is next door to the campsite and appears to be bookable, so it's definitely not P2.

Stayed at the aire P2? in September last year, didn't cost anything like 17Euro, but were there less than 24 hours.

Between 20:00 & 08:00 it's free. But, charging is by the 1/4 hour during the rest of the day. I arrived approx. 15:00 and left at 07:30 cost roughly €9.00. This was a fortnight ago. The entrance to P2 has change too. New barriers with concrete ramps have been built down the road from tne originals. As stated earlier it does not have any shade whatsoever but is only 5 mins from the old city entrance.
