Caravan sales and park home holidays have reached new highs, with comfortably-off baby-boomers and their families keen to explore the British countryside whatever the weather thought to be driving the trend.

New motorhome registrations are also up 25 per cent with the market in conversions, from vans to campervans, similarly buoyant “with demand outstripping supply”, according to the NCC.

Motorhome producer Auto-Trail, part of French group Trigano, says it plans to double output at its Grimsby site, following a major 5,000 square metre expansion of its factory, which will see production change to a car assembly line model.

Hmmm! Good news for the makers and dealers but not really for those of us trying to find a free corner of an aire or campsite. I wonder how many of the people buying now will still be camping 50 years on ( as we are ) ?

Your not far off John. Savings are not getting any decent interest, and if you have money when your old the government will take it to pay for your care so people are spending their money now.
