Caravan medics/have you heard of them? (1 Viewer)

Hi All,
I was looking online the other night for a change of career, i saw an advert for a franchise caravan medics, has anyone heard of them and if so was it good or bad? if you had a dent or scratch on your MH would you use such a service?

Err no but that's only because we are opposite a commercial and very old-established caravan camping and m'home sales pitch/repair workshop/accessories shop plus we have Mark (CLS), Ash, and Alan (DMS) all within a couple of miles of ouur house!

I - personally - would want someone who was authorised/franchised by my brand of motorhome OR whose reputation I was otherwise 100% certain of.

You need a great deal of knowledge and quite a lot of training to be a good motorhome/caravan fitter, this is not a quick type of learning curve like dent removal and bumper repair.

I would have thought the amount of work in Fife could be a bit thin on the ground.

Paintless dent removal was the hardest thing I have ever had to learn, even after 30 years as a panel beater/painter. It is a highly skilled job and can take years of practise to get right.



Caravanmedic is a `Smart repair` company that specialise in minor repairs to bodywork, trim, alloy wheels etc. The problem with franchise companies is they are only as good as the technician that is carrying out the repair. The newbie tech that has just bought his franchise and had his few (at best) weeks training is thrown out on the road and expected to start earning a living for himself.

Jock, do your research and check your area for other companies that may offer `smart repair` as they would have no problem repairing caravans, campers, cars, vans etc and would be your competition.
I certainly think there is a market for this type of repair if done correctly and within the scope of `smart repair`.
Don`t get too ambitious or believe the hype that you will undoubtedly get from the company selling the franchise, try and talk to techs that are out on the road in different areas that have bought into the franchise for a real world expectation of what you could earn from it, and how long it would take to get to the stage where you were earning a decent wage from it.
The benefits of franchise are national advertising and , hopefully, a good back up team to lean on.
