A long time now
We were on a CC site that was overrun by a horde of screaming kids on bikes who thought it was good fun to ride their bikes across our pitch and over the raised landscaped area at the rear of our pitch which was newly planted and therefore no deterent ,so I put my windbreaker across the pitch and that ended up flat and had tyre marks all over it,directly behind our pitch was the toilet block and the kids thought it was a playground and left all their bikes around the doors flat on the floor and people were having to move them just to get in and out . I had enough by then and went to see the warden to complain and he said I wasn't the first and he had been to see some of the parents who were all sitting around a barbeque and were noisy and glad with wine and frankly didn't give a toss , I felt sorry for this chap as he was getting all the stick and was clearly new to this job ,by the way this site was in the middle of a very large reclaimed former mine workings and was surrounded by bike trails and nature trails . I will not be booking any more sites in the school holidays as my blood pressure cant take it any more:eek:

The good thing about CC sites is the online booking and availability check. Saves loads of phone calls.
We have used Chirk, Dunnett Bay, Southport and Start Bay this year.
The wardens on all sites have been friendly and helpful.
I like the peg rule because it means my neighbour has to stay a good distance away from me.

I have to admit, the CC online booking is probably the reason I use their sites the most. At any time of day or night, it's so easy to see what's available and book with a few clicks - it makes me lazy. The C&CC website is ok but they could learn a lot from the CC.

7 years followed by a break of 11 years and then 4+ years but given up now
Wouldn't it be a lot simpler if they used TWO pegs, and park between them - including any tow cars/tugs or what ever?

I remember the Morvich CC site as a lad - stayed in the big grass area down the bottom, and we put up our badminton net as a permanent fixture for the week in the middle. Everyone sat outside in the midges, and socialised :)

Went there last month in the van, and it's all hard standings, one way, park-to-the-peg, and the vast majority were anti-social bar-stewards who sit in their van watching telly all night.

Still - you know what you're getting on a CC site, but CLs and wild camping are much, much more fun!

I didn't realise that it was necessary or compulsory to sit outside in a cloud of midges and socialise to avoid being called an anti social bar steward. I thought people were allowed to enjoy their TV or a book either inside or outside as they please.

I like the caravan club. Real proper campers none of the riff raff you see driving Hymer, I'm also glad they have banned smoking and those who imbibe cheap plonk.

Only the best for us. Expensive Chablis, organic bread and free range eggs. Tap water!!!! Not on your life, we only have bottled water, in proper bottles not your cheap Aldi plastic stuff.

Long may the caravan club maintain standards we don't want to follow the Benidorn model. Cheap trash , cheap plonk (ers) and cheap food. @ukbill is the exception, more class than arrow in it. Bring in the wine dear Bill.

Right must dash @The Happy Hooker is cooking venison en croute with a brandy sauce (5* cognac )organic steamed Hungarian broccoli with Peruvian crushed new potatoes. Followed by hand picked isle of mull strawberries and a rather expensive chantily cream from a monastery in the dordogne. With a glass of Chablis grand Cru.

No baked beans on plastic bread in chateau Shifty.

Tootle pip. .

I have been caravanning for 32 years but in 2014 I have"gone over to the dark side"

I think you are being a tad harsh on @etchacan there! I too sometimes yearn for bygone times when on sites we used to frequently socialise with neighbours outside (in midge nets if applicable) however nowadays, it's usually our experience that on some sites (often CC sites) that the trend is for folks to keep themselves to themselves and "shut up shop" early to watch TV or whatever rather than "socialising"

However that is up entirely to them of course - does seem a shame though!

Is that because Norman doesn't approve of socialising and waves his rule book sternly at people caught outside after 6:45pm?

I thought it was a tad harsh to label people as miserable bar stewards should they not wish to socialise. As you said, the trend is for people to keep themselves to themselves, there is nothing wrong with that, but I suggest there is something wrong with applying a derogatory label to them if they prefer to do so. I will pass the time of day with anyone and enjoy a chat, but on my terms and when I choose.

There's not much I like better than sitting outside the van on a warm summer evening, on a quiet CC site, watching the sun start to set. After about 9pm, few other folk are still outside.
Often, I'll say to the wife, "pass me the bagpipes lassie, it's time for a few wee tunes".
That Norman's a bit of a killjoy though.:D

Surprise you were nearly washed away with the shower from next door, I only ever seem to get a trickle which turns itself off every 20 seconds.
I have stopped using sites as they are too expensive, try Cl,s. Have just had 3 nights at the Amateur Rowing Club in Durham by the river, Showers, toilets, great Bar and very friendly people and only a short walk along the river bank to Durham City , only £12 per night but as he had to put me on the edge of the car park he only charged me £24 for three nights. Followed that up with Three nights on Fowberry Farm with a good view of Bamburgh Castle, The view was to die for with a good pitch and 16 amp leccy Ba Lambs playing in the next field. also clean shower and toilet sand fantastic walks for the dogs. Now that was expensive at £18 per night peak season (dropping to £14 per night out of the school holidays). Tried to book Black Knowle in the new forest, CC site It was well over £300 this year so we booked a Cl up the road for less than half that .A close study of the CL,s listings in conjunction with google earth is giving me some very pleasant surprises and opening up a whole new world.

If when booking online the site appears to be full we still phone on the off chance and always end up being accommodated. I wonder if they deliberately hold back a few pitches?

Hi @Riverbankannie, I did think about it but the CC head office were so adamant that it's their policy and they are sticking with it, I like you thought it was not worth writing a letter, but I have let my view's know when a thread comes on about the Caravan Club.

Gobsmacked really, I can't think of any reason why the CC would deny supplying someone with water. Perhaps all the CC members on here could write to the HO and query it? Probably be a sizeable number, that might make them think, who draws up the policies?

Have been a member for many years ,but this policy is just not on..i have emailed the head office asking for confirmation in writing that this was club policy. .so will wait and hear what happens next ...get as many people as poss.to take a couple of minutes to email them asking for written confirmation . Explaining that CC&C do offer services to people for a small charge..Roy
