As we are away next week to Wareham, Dorset, to visit No 2 son and family, thought about the possibility of a short term car hire. This will allow us to also visit my mother, who lives in a small village where we cant park the van.
Looked on the CC Club page, saw their car hire thing, and gave them a ring. The low down runs thus:
Three days car hire, (small car), pick up at the CC club of our choice, return to the same, £45.00 all inclusive of insurance...
Which I thought was pretty good.
Never tried this before, but it does mean we get down to Swanage for one day, (easy parking), and do all the shopping etc, before we move on. Will give a fuller report after the event.......
    Dave.

    That's a good price.

A few recent examples from us when using Udo:

    1. A 'small' 3 door car - Peugeot thing - tiny little box for £27/day.
    2. Astra VX Coupe diesel thing - Enterprise. £50-ish / day.

And you get delivery thrown in. That's almost worth the money in itself.

We used the CC car hire which is available at Chew Valley. For us it worked a treat, it was possible to hire either by the hour, 12 hours or 24 hours or multiples thereof. Saved us having to take alternative transport as Chew Valley is fairly remote.

That's what we thought, considering the nearest depot is in Poole. The local Wareham car hire is what you quoted, without pick up.

Thats interesting, so just to make sure is it £45 for the 3 days not £45 a day?

That's a great price. Do they have a lot of depots?
If you are somewhere where you can't use this a good tip is to google for independent local hire companies rather than use one of the big companies (Hertz, Enterprise etc.) The small local ones will generally be cheaper and won't require every official document ever issued back to and including your great grandfathers birth certificate!

We hired like this in Windermere last month. We had a Nissan Note for £34 per day, 2 drivers. All the guy wanted to see was the plastic bit of both our driving licences and a credit card.
Pretty much at the same time a friend was trying to hire from one of the big boys in Manchester after his company car died (leaving him stranded) and would have needed a trailer for all the documents they wanted to see!

I was on a CL in Herstmonceux just outside Eastbourne last week, hired a Astra diesel estate from Choice Rentals, delivered on site Monday afternoon collected Thursday evening for £120, it did help that a choice staff member lived just up the road from the site, great little site if you are in the area, 5 hard standings in a very private little orchard / paddock, perfect for dogs

Didn't realise the CC were working with Enterprise. To be honest that puts me off slightly - bad bad treatment by Enterprise once.

Sorry, forgot all about this until I got a 'like' this morning.......
We arrived at the CC site at Hunters Moon, Wareham, on the Wednesday. On Wednesday night, I got a call from Enterprise to say that there might be a short delay in getting the car next morning..........Hmmmmmmmmm.
Anyway, the chap turned up two hours late, and took me to their depot at Poole. Many apologies, and to make up for it, they gave us a bigger car, and agreed to collect the same from Hunters Moon on Sunday Morning, giving us an extra day free. Also, we got a better 'fuel gauge reading', (so we didn't have to top up) Fair does, I thought. This meant that we could get on our way to Devon early doors, without having to worry about returning the car. They even phoned us mid trip to say they were happy with the car condition on collection.
All in all, a great deal. Cant fault the service, the car, (a 2014 Seat), or the very friendly staff. Well worth £45.00. :)(y)(y)

Must have missed the whole thread Toots. Used the facility on a number of occasions. Works (less the pick up and delivery) abroad too. Used it successfully in France and Spain with excellent rates and no pitfalls.(y)

We can also recommend Enterprise for car hire - use the discount with the CC - but if not a member - then I would still reommend them - Although their prices are very competitive they also:-
Pick you up and drop you back - exactly what you need when you are in your van
Excellent customer service when there is a problem
Not rip off merchants - they want repeat business and treat you accordingly
Fuel - as long as you take back with same amount in - no charge - and if there is a charge it is at pump prices
Don't look for any tiny scratches to charge you excess
We took out our own annual excess policy as we use them a lot - cheap way of having use of a car
