Finally going on our summer trip. All prepared except for throwing some clothes in tomorrow, then down to Canterbury P+R for the night and a decent meal at the Gate pub. 8am ferry to Dunkirk and down to Metz, following the route tried and tested by the italian job last year.

then on to Lucerne, picking up the motorway permit at the border. Then in to Camping Butterfly for a week.

On the way back we have no plans at all. just taking the Aires book and the France Passion book with the intention of rambling up past Annecy and hopefully staying over in the Champagne region.

Concentration levels for work today? Absolutely zero :ROFLMAO:

Will miss you guys until I can get wifi at Butterfly

All the best

David

Hi , Hope you have a great journey with no probs .Just though there's a nice aire just above Annecy
Aire: LA BALME-DE-SILLINGY

ADDRESS: LAKE CAR PARK, ROUTE DES CARASSES
TEL: 04 50 68 78 70 FAX:
EMAIL: mairie@labalmedesillingy.fr
TYPE OF AIRE: MUNICIPAL

FACILITIES: WATER /GREY DRAIN/BLACK DRAIN/ELECTRIC
LOCATION: RURAL/LAKESIDE NO. OF SPACES: 25

PRICES/ RATES:
PARKING: 4€/ 24HRS SERVICES: FREE
OPENING TIMES: ALL YEAR
GPS COORDS: N45.97111 E06.03180
DIRECTIONS: From ANNECY take N508 NORTH to LA BALME-DE-SILLINGY. Go past the lake (on your LEFT) & then turn LEFT into ROUTE DES CARASSES & the AIRE.
SITE DESCRIPTION: A lovely rural location nest to a large lake with good views, yet close (1/2 km) to a small village where there are shops (including Boulangerie, Bar-Tabac, Superette, butchers & Garage + choice of restaurants). Parking is in a medium sized gravel car park with trees providing shade. The adjacent lake has good walks, boating, fishing, boules, a play area & picnic tables. There is an Artisanal borne with platform drain.
REVIEW
2006 This is a superb, well placed Aire (short distance from shops) next to a lake that you can walk around, in a quiet position & with fine views. Fishing & boating are possible in the lake but swimming is not allowed. There is also a 2nd Aire in the village at the Motorhome Garage (Curioz Loisirs) in the Zone Industrial de Lompraz -- about 300m North of here, but it's not a patch on this one.

Hi, you will find Lake Annecy VERY busy, we tried the Aire there and it is tiny and jammed full sardines comes to mind! This was about two weeks ago.
We went on to Lake Leman (Geneve) campsite there very rural St Disdille ACSI site, lake in walking distance, about 5 mins, and you can swim in it-very clean clear water. Shop on site, bar on site and bar at lake & bar down road!

Thanks a lot Manda. i will have the ACSI book with me as well, so have bookmarked that one. Always good to have alternatives, though it might be a bit far east for the route home
