Just bought a cheap wired reversing camera and small monitor and ideally want to mount the camera next to the numberplate lights on the back door.
Power required is stated as 3W and power connections at the camera end.
So can I connect +&- in the numberplate housing so working when the lights are on without upsetting the Canbus?

Alternative is to get power from towball electrics or run power from switched supply in cab.

Depends how sensitive the canbus system is.
It may see the extra 3watts as an overloaded bulb.

Even a spanking new, but very cheap, bulb can upset a canbus.

I took mine from the towbar wiring reversing light and has worked okay. Took it off today though as I have bought a twin camera and will wire it up to the leisure battery through a fused switch.

you could run off the towbar wiring. if 13 pin, then from the plug if not from the bypass relay feed. then use a low power relay and switch that with the rear light. failing that use a relay switched using an ignition live and run that to the back of the van. canbus wiring can be so sensitive it gets difficult to tie into

    Thanks for the advice.
Will look at the towing electrics first and failing that take some switched power from the front.

I wired mine to the radio ignition feed, had to run the cable to the front of the van for the monitor anyway. Camera is always on when ignition is on, I have a twin camera so I can use it as a rear view mirror if required.
