I think my Sog filter needs changing...do I buy the Sog original or is there an alternative.

I dont have a sog but i suspect any charcoal filter cut to fit would do the job.....at a fraction of the genuine filter cost.

Some people advocate getting fish tank filters and all sorts of things, I would say just get the one that fits and is made for the job.
