I hate gardening and only do you t because it's necessary. Know nothing about plants.
Now these have grown up in the garden, quite tall and I was just going to dig them out, thinking big weeds, when I noticed they have flower buds on them.

Sorry the photos are poor--- full sun at the moment.

Can anyone tell me if they are weed or garden plant, please?

They're going to be beautiful when they flower
If you leave the seed heads intact they will seed themselves again for next year
Poppies don't have a long flowering period, but they look great

They're not poppies like the red ones you see everywhere they have many petals and are really beautiful.

You can also eat the Sow Thistle when they are younger, that one will be very bitter.
In Maori they are "puha", and used like a kind of spinach.

Quite a favourite meal in the old days "Pakiha and Puha"

Off topic, sorry. I took this photo this morning. It's a bad photo of a flower of a caper p!ant. You know, the small, expensive, green things that you buy in jars. Here they grow wild but I'm not confident to pick the buds and preserve them! The best flowers are the other side of the fence.

I was all fired up to have a go and then read that there is a poisonous caper plant and to make sure you got the right one. Needless to say I chickened out!

They use the buds here and then they pickle the fruit also to use on salads. The fruit looks like a gooseberry on a long stalk.

Pauline wherever the poppy seeds fall at the end of flowering they may not flower until the year after next. The ones you have may have blown from your neighbours the year before last.

I asked my neighbour. These are from her pink poppies. She gave me some seeds last year. I had to ed poppies in the garden in France but they were more sort of delicate and feathery looking than these. I'm sure they'll look nice when they flower. Glad I didn't just attack them with the spade.

Yes mine must be welsh ones!
I expect there'll be some seeds lurking in the ground, just waiting till Rob's back's turned.
They'll be back!
