Campsites around London (1 Viewer)

In our travel to UK we want to know London very well.
We are looking for a campsite near London. We'd like a quiet and clean place and with good public transport near it.

oh:oh:oh:The three options are:

Abbey Wood Caravan Club

Lee Valley Camping and Caravan Club, at Edmonton

Crystal Palace Caravan Club

Can you tell us something about them?

Which one will you choose? and why?:Blush:

Crystal Palace

I have no experience of any site other than Crystal Palace, it is a good site with excellent public transport links into Central London.

We have stayed at the Abbey Wood Caravan Club site twice and are booked to go back there again in a few weeks time. It is usual CC high standards. Transport into London is very god.

The Lee Valley site at Edmonton is not run by the Camping & Caravanning Club. I think it is run by the local council. We stayed there 3 years ago just for two nights. The site was good but as we were travelling into London on a Sunday we had to use bus, train and tube as the nearest railway station was not open on Sundays.

The two CC sites and the Edmonton site are all in the Low Emission Zone, which may be a consideration if your motorhome is an older diesel one. An alternative, which is outside the LEZ, is another Lee Valley site, at Sewardstone - see Link Removed. We stayed one night about 18 months ago and it was OK. We didn't want to travel into London that time so can't comment on transport links.

My bro in law used to park up in Epping on his way back from France....don't know if site still there but maybe worth a google....nice and quiet and easy access into central London by train/underground...maybe someone on here knows if still something there

Hi we are on Abbey Wood at the moment.

The site is excellent, the facilities are excellent - very clean and warm and it is beautifully located on the edge of woods (although the grounds are covered in snow.)

The station is a short walk with a good train service into Central London.

Many buses run from close by.

There are many local shops for groceries, newspapers, take-aways, hairdressers, and others, a large Post Office and cashpoints (ATMs) a short walk away.

The area around is suburban South-East London and will not win any prizes (although I think Thamesmead did when it was first built.)

Make sure you book - it can get very busy in season.

Abbey Wood Caravan Club

Good site. About a mile walk to the station then for something like £3/4 you can buy an all day ticket for the tubes.

Not much to see within walking distance.

You will need to book to be sure of getting a pitch.

If you drive or use a campsite within the M25 motorway then depending on your motorhome engine you may need to consider the London Low Emission Zone.

The caravan and camping club site at Hertford is nice and rural yet still close to London with a good train link. Heartford is also a very nice place to visit.

Surrey side of London

we have stayed at the CC club in Walton, it's very close to the main-line into London Waterloo which only takes about 20 mins from Hersham railway station, it's ideal as it is outside the emision charge zone, we have also stayed at the site at Edmonton, but it took a lot longer to get into town because you had to get a bus from just outside the site to the local train station & then hop on a tube. personally we found the Hersham site very quiet and easier to get into the centre of London from and it's in a nicer location try it !

its very near us, a pleasant site and we will happily take you out and about if we can

It is right next to a smashing 18-hole public golf course with a shop and cafe, the River Lee and a cinema. Best of all it's in the Lee Valley Country Park, which you can get full access to along the length of the river.

The wardens are great and you can cycle right into London City centre, mostly along paths.
