Cam belt for 2.8 peugeot boxer td (1 Viewer)

Could anyone tell me how difficult or expensive it is to fit a new cambelt when the time comes.
The vehicle is a compass cruiser 740 on a y plate

Difficulty is hard to judge without knowing your skills
on a scale of 1-10
1 being anyone who can use a screw driver can do it
10 being a trained mechanic reqd, I would score it 7-8
some mechanical know how will be needed, awkward access, some specialist tools recommended a full understanding of engine timing and
the consequences of getting it wrong a proper tensioning gauge or (experiance ) (or just guess it)
A full timing kit should be used (not just the belt)
depending on type of garage chosen
Circa £250-£350 +vat
DiY £90 ish

Hi Paul you may wont to check when it was last changed on a Fiat 2.8TD that I had it was at 5 years or 50000 miles.

Due to aircon it made it more time consuming to change, I think the charge was as Geo said around £350, which if it goes while driving then thats nothing to what the bill will be.

I agree with Geo. What I will add is this the time should be around 3hrs. According to Rich if it is the same as the actua lboxer van it should be a doddle to do and you would not need a ramp ( but then he has been doing this since he left school)
The replacement guide says 75,000 under normal conditions, 60,000 under adverse or 10 years.

Might be worth double checking, if the quoted mileage is 75000 Kms, then that is about 46000 miles. I think the engine is the same as a Fiat and if so then according to a fiat forum the time limit is 5 years.

My Fiat Ducatto handbook states that the cambelt should be changed at 72,000 miles or 5 years whichever is the earlier.
On Mopnday I am having my 2004 Fiat Ducatto 2.8JTD cambelt plus tensioners, and also the alternator belt, changed at North East Vans and Trucks, Lincoln. Total cost: £389.55.
It might appear a lot but it is being done by professionals and that in turn gives me peace of mind.

Sorry should have stated its in miles . 75,000 miles and 60,000 miles.

Hi,

I had the timing belt changed on my 1999 FIAT 2.8 TD. and there was a problem.

I went to the local Motorspares shop and told them what I wanted, they took my Reg No and entered it into their system which identified the correct!!! belt, The staff then went to the parts catalogue and identified it in the book and obtained the part No. They then etered that part No into their computer which advised it was the correct type and they had 1 in stock which I purchased for £35 + VAT.:thumb:

I took the vehicle to my local garage along with the belt and left it with them to change, Later in the day I got a phone call saying I had obtained the wrong belt, they went on to inform me that they had removed the old belt but could not fit the new one which appeared to be smaller. 3 members of staff checked including the lady in the office as even their system showed I had purchased the correct one.

Eventually they counted the number of teeth on the old belt and the new belt, the old one 154 teeth, the new one 153 teeth and was therefore slightly smaller. They contacted the motorspares shop where I had purchased mine and were informed there are several different engines in the 2.8TD range and they have different belts. They were aware of this but relied upon their computer systems to identify the correct belt, which in my case did not happen.:Angry:

The cost of having mine fitted was about £200 + VAT.:thumb:
