Just read on the swift forum that there appears to be a shortage of calls lite cylinders
Anyone had any problems ?? And yes I know most of you will have refillable systems

Yep - went to the local place (Davan Caravans) on Saturday 'sorry no Calor light 6kg, not been able to get them'.

Didn't know there was a shortage though.

This happens every year as calor re stock all the seasonal Caravan sites that re open late March.
If you get desperate just drop by your nearest CC site with your membership card and "cash"

Our local Go Outdoors had none, fortunately our local camp site had some. They told me that Calor themselves were low on stocks.

Yes, there's a shortage. Go Outdoors has been mentioned, which is a good suggestion... because you can check online if your local branch has any stock. :thumb:

Last time I looked a couple of weeks ago, about half their stores had some and half didn't.

I got the last one at our local store. Oh, and I think the price is about as good as you'll get.

When I last bought a refill I was also told that they are difficult to obtain.

By coincidence, we went this afternoon to get a calorlite refill. Plenty in stock at our local garden centre. I must just have been lucky....

If calor did a refund of the deposit you have to pay, there would be plenty available:thumb::thumb::thumb:
According to their website they will refund part of the deposit depending on the age of the bottle as long as you have the original paperwork,

Heading off for Croatia tomorrow so visited the local main Calor depot last Thursday to change an empty cylinder.

The site manager said "You're lucky. We had eight in yesterday. Bring your cylinder to the barrier gate and I will get your new one for you. We have to hide them as site owners come in, see them, and say I'll take ten of those as they're in short supply".

Speaks for itself.

We have a full one in our daughters shed, got 2 with the caravan and emptied one and sold it for £10. :roflmto:
The other one I thought as the gas in it is so expensive I would save it for special occasions.:ROFLMAO:

You will find that most are in the lockers of caravans that use maybe half a bottles worth of gas a year so it will take a while for calor to manufacture enough for there to be a surplus.

My advise if you want light weight bottles get alugas refillable.

I dont know how true this is, but the local 'Calorman' told me that about 90+% of 6kg calorlite bottles were filled and sold thus no empties coming back to replenish as no full exchange bottles in stock. The empties that do come back the owners won't let them go as the only replacements are the standard bottles - almost a catch 22 as they paid the higher price for the light bottles and once exchanged for standard bottles they will not be able to get the light bottles back.

He did go onto say that Calor should be getting over this by replenishing the stock,,,,,,, but that could just get worse if people snap up the new bottles (as in to have) and not to exchange.

Will this ever end?????

Hi jhorsf,
I have seen these adaptors - have you used one before? Could be the answer, I am just trying to picture me doing it at the local garage,,,,,, is it safe in a garage environment, does the valve freeze etc?

Regards,

Trikeman. :winky:

I've got one here that I won't use, pretty sure it's full I was given it as a replacement for one I lent out a while ago. Anyone wants it and can pick it up can have it for £25
