today i downloaded 'CCleaner' HDD/system cleanup utility.

it found all sorts of crap lurking in the system....partial files, missing files, corrupted files etc.

just one button click and all sorted and put in order.

excellent free program. :thumb:

Lots, on and off, way back to VW splitty`s!
Anyone got an easy fix for `Google redirect virus`. It got past AVG and the 1 click cleaner I have doesn`t fix it either.

I've been using ccleaner for some time now.

Really works well.

Always make a System restore point first bthough...just in case ..

Malwarebytes...as mentioned before in other threads...sorts most problems...

This link provides some very worthwhile tips for it's removal. http://www.troublefixers.com/remove...ecom-redirect-virus-removal-tool-for-windows/

Good Luck.:thumb:

I've been using CCleaner for a while as well plus, occasionally, SUPERAntiSpyware after seeing them recommended (on this forum I think).

A couple of months ago I bought a magazine with a cover mount CD which had several different programs on it, including the Auslogics Disk Defrag which Jim mentioned. As a result I also, from time to time, use: Glary Utilities & Quick Startup; Advanced SystemCare and Tweak Now Power Pack.

I've used AVG for years but found with the latest version (9) that it stops Windows Defender from working and I had to turn off the Active Surf Shield as it slowed IE response down otherwise.

I had a recommendation yesterday from someone I know of Link Removed so I've uninstalled AVG from this machine and I'm trying it out. Seems OK so far.

Thanks Jim - only found 578 errors on my system so you and John beat me

I think the main reason it found so many that others didn't is the same as with spyware etc. All the programs work in a slightly different way - one reason I use the various programs I listed earlier from time to time.

Another reason is that some free versions are not really fully functional and to hit everything you need to use the paid for version - another reason for using various programs from time to time.

I've found no conflicts between various programs so long as I only have one (used to be AVG now the MS product) resident at one time and only use other programs in a controlled fashion.
