Its really quite simple, here is the formula

The simple relationship between voltage(v), inductance(L), and current(i) is:

V(t)=Ldi(t)dt

Just one I had to remember from my Fire Service exam days.

Seriously though do uncoil, if not heat is produced due to an electromagnetic thingymajig and as previously mentioned is not uncommon.

Of course NOT, if you did then you'd already have one, after all you are one of the original "nutters".

Exactly Dave me ole Ducks, anyone who's met me woul'd say the same, except of course that Norwich Woman Dawn Nora Battie
The "Nutter" was last seen on a bus heading towards Truro...... ;)

Nora Batty...........phwoar.........

We were on the Chertsey C&CC site on Wednesday and the people on the next pitch (elderly couple) had their 25m cable coiled tightly on a drum with the EHU point right by the pitch marker. Mentioned the dangers to them but got told to mind my own business. Just trying to be helpful. They were not funsters but tuggers

I never bother telling them now. I know I should but they really don't want to know:rolleyes:

I've never owned a coiled EHU cable, so I won't complain any more when I have to wind my dew-soaked muddy cable into a neat loop by hand.

One thing I've noticed with mine is the EHU cable is getting lumpy due to the three internal wires getting twisted inside the outer insulation. It's a bit like what you see on some steam iron cables - they seem to get all twisted inside on their own. What's that all about?

I'm glad I didn't sit that exam Jez.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

6yrs ish!
We also uncoil & have a shorter hook up cable according to distance to hookup point. None on a reel though. Biggest fear is fire !!!!
Better safe than sorry.

It depends on the Current draw, I doubt Motorhomes would draw sufficient amps to heat up a coiled EHU Cable..

Would be interested to know the wattage/current being used to cause that damage?
With that size cable in a more or less sealed container I wouldn't run a 100 w light bulb.
If you buy an extension cable specifically designed for the job of the correct diam. then loosely coiled outside then there shouldn't be a problem

What is everyone complaining about? Stick your bacon and eggs on top and here you go - induction hob on the cheap! (y)
