Not used em myself but I believe they're very good and very helpfull. Plus the fact, they are RVers themselves and specialise in RV glass. Just been a big article on them in ARVE.

answer to ps = use em as levelling blocks!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that news Geo. Can't help with the glass, but it sounds as though Zaskar has got that sorted for you. Your other question is a different matter and I am sure that I can help with that issue :thumb: Not sure about the disposal, but the creation would seem simple enough to me :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Good luck getting it sorted mate.....

I was going to run out and check.............................Then I remembered that Rocky is not here any more
If you have got a ste of calipers or a micrometer then can you not check the thickness of one of the other windows, say the drivers side window, as I think they are all the same thickness..... Remember that it will be an imperial size too.... I would guess that a suitable metric size could be fitted but the gasket will need to be doctored. Pity Linda is away as she would be able to help for sure mate.... Never here when she is needed eh? some excuse about needing a holiday :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

What a bummer, Geo. Suggest gooly removal as suitable reparation to local hooligans.

You could maybe use a bit of perspex temporarily, to keep the weather out?

You'd need to get advice from someone about whether that's an MOT failure, though. . .

Thanks Keith for the suggestions, American glass is toughened and treated after cutting is done, no further cutting possible:cry: ( Say's RAC Specialist glass dept) but will e-mail him to get size and thickness:RollEyes: Rac are coming out Monday to measure up to see if UK 5mm laminated Glass can be used if so £75 all in fitted if not Rac will source a thinner glass for it, he suggest that Kelly's are using laminated as they offer a same day measure and fitting service they cant be using toughened, as the process takes a week or so after cutting, if so, there taking the proverbial at that price.
Failing that I will blank it out and paint it, add a rear grill and sell it as a pusher:thumb:

Geo,

I 'm sure you won't have missed this but....

Are you not covered under the glass replacement section on your insurance policy?

I know we are covered for ALL glass on ours (with Budget). I specifically checked this when we renewed.

Yooooooohooooooooo!

Sorry to hear of your plight Geo.

Nothing I can do to help from this end as shipping glass is dodgy to say the least.

Speak to Chris - G2EWS, he has just had a window replaced by the RAC , I know 'cos they wrecked his window awning fitting it

Hi Geo,

Tried to respond to your pm, but your inbox is full! Obviously a popular chap!

There is an issue with getting the wrong glass fitted which can cause you lots of problems. This is why I thought it better to get it replaced under insurance. The RAC where OK but I had to point them in the direction of Dudleys who are the UK Winnebago representative. Once that happened it did not take too long for the glass to arrive from the USA.

As you are aware the guy fitting it cut the new window awning which they replaced, however, I am fitting it!

I remember when checking it out in the beginning that the issue, was, I think, not having toughened which copes with movement. The normal glass as fitted more recently would likely as not break at the first flex!

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris
That is interesting, I am just wondering though about the windscreen fitted to an RV, it is made from Laminated glass I believe not Toughened glass. I would have thought that the windscreen would experience far greater forces being exerted upon it than a window in the rear cap due to cap movement and air pressures etc?
It would be interesting to get a definitive answer on that one....

Hi Keith,

Not really sure. I did get the info from both Dudley's and the RAC separately, so you sort of believe it. The RAC had nothing to gain only loose! ie the cost of getting the glass from USA via Dudley's.

Hi Olley
I sent Steve's email address to Geo earlier by PM :thumb:
Just for interest, his name is Steve Ruston and his website is Link Removed. Just click down and see they can supply RV windscreens. Steve is a nice chap, very helpful and knowledgeable so it would be good to contact him with any windscreen queries.

Hi all
I have just sent an email to Steve informing him of Motorhome Fun and inviting him to join us, which I sincerely hope that he does.
Maybe someone with his experience will be able to enlighten me (us) with regard to the suitability of different glass in different positions on an RV.
I do believe what you have said Chris, I just find it hard to understand why those people have made the comments that they have and would be very interested to know the reasons. I figure we can all learn something new every day ::bigsmile:
