OK this might be a daft question my diod has packed in on my soler it a 30 mile round trip to get on.
I have a box with sum bridge rectifiers in it
Would one of those work that only have diodes in them any way don't thay I might be wrong but I am sure someone will be along soon to sortmeout
19v open cercut DC in DC out would it work

I know nothing about solar panels, Bill, but I think one leg should work in theory

But a diode will only cost a few pence, why not wait until you can get to a store such as Maplins?

Bugger. As I say, the bridge rectifier would appear to be usable in theory. Just that I'd hate to give advice and see things go wrong. Best to see if an expert on solar panels can advise

It's only 12v not like I am going to blow my shelf up but I think it could code a power reduction.

Use just the output side of the bridge rectifier. Connect - to source and + to load. Tape the input connections. You will have 2 diodes in series but it will work.

Yes. The volt drop will be higher than for a single diode but it will be better than nothing.

Just checked it 2v drop giving 17v to controller
    Thanks Guy's it worked

Yay! As stated by Flamenco above, the volt drop over two diodes (0.6V/diode from memory) will be greater, so that will impair charging

    Good news

A capacitor can either fail open circuit or short circuit. Usually they are across the supply in a M/H, so a short circuit will almost certainly blow a fuse in that case. A open circuit cap wouldn't prevent power from getting through, but could allow power fluctuations to get though.

Caps can sometimes be used in series with the supply, to allow audio or radio signals to get through and prevent DC from doing so. I'm unsure where that would be used in a M/H, perhaps and aerial, audio or signalling circuit. In which case a short circuit will cause interference with that signal, an open circuit will stop everything from passing through.

Sorry it is so generalised, need more information to give you a better answer

    Ho de ho, Ian

On the cap, looks like it is non polarised, Bill. Means it can go in either way around.

Great news. I would still change that bridge rectifier for a single diode when you get the chance, though. Make sure the current rating is sufficient to do the job
