What do people do for breakdown cover when the van is long and heavy. We are 7.6 mtr and 4200kg.
Not as easy as I presumed when you go long and over the magic 3500kg.
Most of our time spent in Europe.Spoke to someone who used to use ADEC but advised they now require a German address ?
How about HGV cover ?

What are the trip duration limits and did you have it included with a insurance policy ?

Surfing the net it seems if you search for HGV cover there are companies that offer a pay on use system. This gives a call centre who then arrange whatever is required and you pay.The expense may be high if you use it but gives all year cover in Europe and hopefully never need to ring them

Does your insurer not offer breakdown cover ?

If not then try Comfort Insurance.

they offer RAC Advantage full European Breakdown cover, not limit on weight or size..

Premium. £60.50

I'm covered for European breakdown with Britannia Rescue, which covers MHs upto 8m, 7.5T (so should do you!).

It's paid for via my Nationwide FlexPlus account, which "costs" £10pm BUT, because I keep £2.5k in it, they give me £6.50ish back as interest every month. So real cost is approx £42pa (y)

This account also provides worldwide travel cover, phone cover (plus extended warranties).

In addition, if you switch your account to them via a members "recommendation", both folk get £100 cashback, thus effectively giving you "free" cover for 2.5y! Worth considering? :)

We're 7.4m and over 3.5t and we have full European cover through our insurance with Comfort.

Never had to use it though so can't comment on how good it is.

I'm with ADAC, 8.8m & 5 tonne,,had to use them in belgium last week when the alternator snapped it's shaft and threw the belt off.
Easy to deal with they sent a truck which gave me a suspended tow to the nearest iveco garage. only had to wait 3 hours, while they found a truck big enough to lift us... luckily i was right next to the services slip road when it happened.
