Bosch Classic+ Spider Plastic Lock Ring breaking (1 Viewer)

Has anyone had experience of these rings breaking? They hold the front cog in place. Mine failed today on a cycle trip around Camping Barcelona, I managed to get it sorted temporarily but unfortunately Bosch drives are not popular in Spain and there are no dealers even in Barcelona. I ordered a replacement from e-bikes in the UK and now it seems the plastic rings are discontinued in favour of a new alloy model so clearly an issue. Needed a special tool which I ordered too, all plus airfreight to here of £22 but they got it on its way within the hour according to DHL tracking!!. I am wondering if I should have ordered 2 as my wifes bike has a plastic ring too. What makes them fail, anyone know?

Better off asking on ebike forum I would think. ...... Have had 4 bosch bikes no problems....
