Need a bit of advice, my father in law has just rung me up asking about his friends motorhome, the bloke died recently and she is 70 years old, they have a 52 plate autosleeper talisman, on a peujot chassis 58k on the clock and apparantly it has been serviced every year, they bought it from new. My father in law reckons it is immaculate inside.

I am going to have a look at it on Monday to reassure the old dear that it is worth some money as I woudnt want some arse to come in and offer them £5k, I have plucked a figure of £25k from somwhere is this a reasonable price.

I get this quite often Honda Blackbirds..

There are always going to be chancers out there quite happy to try their arm at a high price..

But the fact you saw it on eBay means it has not actually sold..

I think a realistic figure would be around the 18 - 20K mark

A private seller is not going to be offering a warranty the same as a dealer either, so if there is a dealer offering a van at £20k and a private seller doing the same, the bias would lean towards the dealers offer

But then there is also the geographical side to think about..

Again, two sources offering the same vehicle and one is within striking distance, that will be the first to be looked at by a potential customer.. But if you pitch a price a grand higher than the further away source that is a LOT of moola saved for the sake of a longer drive.. So again, pitch the price at the same or similar to others offering a similar van ( an please, take Fleabay for what it is.. A place infested by chancers and triers as well as the many genuine folk !

Never thought it would happen but ebay has finally suckered me in, my first port of call should have been autotrader but I want to ebay. Kill me now.

The general consensus is around £20k then. I will let the old dear know when I see her, and I will push the autotrader route when she decided to sell it.

Actually, ebay is one of the best places to check the current value of most goods. It is used by auction houses and dealers as a bench mark.. .. but you MUST check completed listings and what the selling price was .. not what they are advertised for..

You do need to sell it without hassle so max £19850 should see it on its way, it will be a cheap van for someone to buy but it will be hopefully gone.

Autotrader: I've just sold a car on there. What I liked about it was the ability to keep your mobile no private, they provide a ghost number. You will get offers from trade possibly, I had an offer from a toyota dealer within 45mins and thats who I sold to. Just ensure you're clear in your mind on the bottom line. Autotrader cost me £35, but was worth every penny.

Autotrader is my primary source for my ongoing search for a MH, its an easy way to get an idea of the market. You can quickly identify which dealers are overpricing.

bit of help

Now is not a good time to sell, but great to buy.
If it can be left till march April, could raise another 3,000 pounds!

Can't remember ;)
It depends on which engine it has in it,but as a quick guide the bigger 2.8 engine is worth around 1k more. Now is a hard time to sell any M/H unless it is cheap say 16 /18 k simply because people don't want to pay out money and have it stood-Come late Feb early March then lots of people on the lookout and she may get 2k more but she will have to spend money getting a fresh MOT etc.
I would personaly stick it on ebay with the very least she will acept (say 16/17k) as the start price (assuming she wants rid)and see what it makes :Smile:If it sells ebay only charge about £35 on vehicle sales if not it is about £8 to list --or at least it was last time I wanted to sell,so you may need to check on selling fees etc first

A hassle free way is to sell it on a contract sale through a dealer, John at Becks Motorhomes would be the one I would recommend.

Give him a ring and see if he would be interested. Call: 01493 740 274

My father in law said that the charges asked for as a brokerage deal was taking the piss, he reckons she aint that bothered about a quick sell, so I will pass on to her all the info about selling next year, as for engine size I wont know until I go see her on Monday.

You don't have to put it on Ebay as an 'auction', you could just do it as a classified ad.
