When looking recently for our new bikes, I found that insurance would only allow D lock type. I did buy one but have found it more difficult to use than my old steel shelled flexible one. I cannot always find a suitable post close enough to fit the D lock and it is much more fiddly to operate. Check with your insurance company first.

Any suggestion re decent lock . Remember I'm a poor pensioner.

I bought one of these:

Amazon product ASIN B008QTKVO2
This one appears to be pretty strong but as I posted on other threads, most locks are pickable or can be broken. This might make the scum move on to the next bike but don't rely on it.

We have a Kryptonite D lock but also a 10mm Oxford chain and padlock. Two different types which I believe is the recommended method. One is a sold secure gold and the other is silver. Gets a bit heavy though.
