Beware - processionary caterpillars are marching (1 Viewer)

Spotted them in Spain a couple of days ago and now in Bompas, Ariege this morning. Not the same ones though, they have all been sent to caterpillar heaven.

They have nests in trees, pine trees here, but there are others that nest in oaks, but it's when they are in a procession that they could cause problems. They can be seen on roads, tracks, paths, the forest floor ... anywhere! Just keep pets under control and eyes open. The processions should be coming to an end shortly at least in Southern Spain.

Just keep pets under control and eyes open.

Keeping your dog/ferret/hamster on a lead is not enough, you have to look where you are walking as well. In Spain the remains of the procession was in mid-path as was the case of the still marching procession in Bompas. In our area you will see the nests, white fine mesh cocoons holding the eggs then babies, over wintering in pine trees.
