We were in the "checked-in the night before" lane at Bilbao, waiting for the Tuesday morning 15 March sailing to Portsmouth.
At 4am Ros woke up because the dog barked once. She heard voices outside speaking in Spanish? and looked out at 3 people. One African man had unloosened the tarpaulin covering a towed trailer and a young couple were getting in. Ros shouted "What are you doing", twice, in a loud voice and the African told her to shut her F-ing mouth or he would smash her F-ing windows in.
This brought out a couple of guys in the adjacent caravans/campervans who confronted the African. They withdrew from the trailer and walked away. The police turned up minutes later and were seen walking the 3 people out of the dock area.
Mentioned this to the Border Force when docking at Portsmouth and they said it was not unusual, they had caught several that morning at Portsmouth.
So Bilbao is not so far removed from the migrants issue that you can feel safe there. Do check your trailer, vans and caravans for sings of entry.

PS I slept through it all!
