Hi and welcome(y)
Don't think there is much in the way of wild camping in the NF so your better off using camp sites, of which there are plenty:)

@Popeye lives in the new forest I'm sure he knows more on parking(y)

Hi and welcome to FUN, pity your not going the France, they like motorhomes over there you will find parking in the New Forest a bit difficult so as others have said book into a site and enjoy the life style. (y)

Hi and Welcome to Fun.
Wild camping overnight is discouraged in the New Forest. You can park up for the day on one of the forest car parks, mostly free. But stay after dusk and you'll get a visit from Police or forest ranger ( think they're called verderers)

There are sites within the tress-such as Setthorns--not always the easiest parking if you've not done it before. The C&CC site on the road between Ashurst and Lyndhurst is more open but no dogs allowed. You don't have to be a member of C&CC.
If you're happy manoeuvring between trees Setthorns has direct access onto the Forest, and the cycle track along the old railway line. Short walk to the pub ( nice food, quite expensive) in Sway. If you're walking back in the dark torch is essential and be VERY sure you know exactly where your van is parked!
There are also some CLs and CSs in the area.
