Our old hymer (1985 and lhd) passed mot tests until 2 years ago, then the mot centre decided that I had to have UK headlights. They were quite hard to find, but eventually I got new looking units, and they passed it.
When we got to Cherbourg that year I fitted beam deflectors ,
And they have remained in place ever since.
Frankly I do not understand why they made me do it,but since I
Avoid night driving after a horror trip through Madrid it makes little difference to me personally, but I still wonder at the bureaucratic madness.
I do not profess to know the correctness of it,but it has always seemed to me that the original German lights with beam deflectors were probably a better solution .?
Now this is my point. Surely they cannot make this retrospective as often RHD headlights are no longer produced.
Mine passed mid April so clearly there are testers who know the rules and those who just don't !

1996, then break 'til 2011

To be blunt the Ducato headlights that Bill has are similar to the Renault ones I have (1991)..they are so sh*t useless you'd be lucky to pick out the cats eyes (remember them?), never mind dazzle anyone, whichever side of the road

.... more likely to be dazzled by a cyclist with one of those ridiculous led lights !!!!

I travel 36 miles from home for the two cars and 17 miles for the van (each way). It's worth the travel for the professionalism and honesty

Correct but try doing it without instructions  I've seen plenty very badly fitted of both varieties.
I meant they fitted beam benders as though the headlights were RHD. This occurred due to using those headlight protectors and putting the vinyl tape where marked on them
Interesting comments
The boys on the Numpty to Nermburg all bought varying make of I prefer to call them masks
even with instructions and Mot testing equipment we could not see them do anything like they claimed

All mine do is level the beam out. I rarely drive in the dark but when I have they have been more than adequate once I'd thrown away the headlight protectors that the previous owner fitted. They had even gone yellow which made it worse

Forgot to mention..
If you get offered just the lenses that is good too.
Remove your old headlights and warm them up with water out of the hot water tap
When as warm as possible put in a bowl and pore boiling water over them straight from the kettle
You should then be able to lift off the old lenses with a bit of effort
Place the new ones on the old shell and using a hot glue gun glue them in place

Mind you, thinking about it, if you'rs are still the original units there is every chance the buggers are held in with mastic.. not so easy to deal with.
I just smash the buggers tease off the bits with a screw driver and then proceed with the glue gun !

YOUR NEW REASONS FOR REJECTION
With new diagram
No 1 Cracked me up:doh:
1. The beam image contains a ‘Kick-up’that is not visible on the screen.:RollEyes:
(If it's not visible on the screen, How do I know it's got one?????)

2.For headlamps with centres
not more than 850mm from the
ground the beam image
horizontal cut-off is not between
the horizontal 0.5% and 2.75% lines.

3.For headlamps with centres
more than
850 mm from the
ground, the beam image
horizontal cut-off is not between
the horizontal 1.25% and 2.75%lines.4.White light shows in the zone
formed by the 0% vertical
and 0.5% horizontal lines.

Also the exact wording re headlamp masks

Masks or converter kits may befitted to right hand dip headlamps to
temporarily alter the lamp for use in
the UK
by removing the beam ‘kick-up’to the right.
A headlamp altered in this way is not a
reason for rejection, if:
a.the headlamp aim is not rejected for
the reasons listed under diagram 1(except that the top of the beam
image will be a straight line)

b.the light output is not unduly
reduced - not usually a problem
with commercially produced kits

c.the mask or converter is securely
attached.

Rightly or wrongly, I interpret the inclusion of the word "temporarily"
to mean that UK registered vehicle with right hand headlamp corrected with masks are a failure because their use is permanent and therefore unacceptable
As I read it I also think it is retrospective, if that was not the intention, then cut of dates would have been included
