Thanks for the advice last post :thumb:

I went out and bought a quite expensive charger that charges and also conditions the battery. It is a Powering from Halfords.

After 48 hours of slowly charging and then re-conditioning the battery, I get an error message that basically says the battery is broke and needs to be replaced.

however, the van started first time, and the voltage is reading 12.5 volts.

I am assuming the error message is implying that my 12.5 volts will not last, and the battery condition means it will quickly discharge. does that sound right? Or does the fact I managed to charge to 12.5 volts mean it is ok?

If i need to buy a battery I am prepared to do so, obviously, but hoping that a funster that understands these things might be able to advise..

    Thanks

    David

Hi Dave and welcome to MHF. I too am new and have had leisure battery problems, but yours sounds like a vehicle battery problem. Your analysis could be right but how old is your battery; this information might be helpful to those offering you advice.
Hope you get the battery sorted soon and without any additional expense.

    Hi,

Been a member on here a year now, and learning every day.

It is the vehicle battery, not the leisure, as you say. As for age, I would have to assume the same as the van, so 6 years as it is a 55 plate Autoquest 100

This is a handy chart for showing voltages of a 12V battery

Beat me to it Dick !!!

Word of advice re Halfrauds chargers..
While Halfrauds do some really excellent kit and at very good prices, the chargers are extremely suspect !
If the battery is working and its quiescent voltage is within the realms of the above chart, do not worry about it ! :thumb:

    Thanks Jaws,

It seems to be the conditioning that failed, so rather than rush out and spend on a new battery I will just have to make sure I go somewhere every weekend from now on. will be tough, but I guess it has to be done...
