If you're not sure get a five quid multimeter off eBay and test the battery terminals. It's worth having one in the van anyway, in case you think something electrical's not working properly.

I think my Ducato van only charges the leisure battery's if you look on the panel it will say how much charge is in each and the veicle battery never seems to go up.

In my autotrail to charge up the engine battery, turn on the control panel and also press the battery button, then turn on the main changing unit.

Hi mate, Not many motorhomes charge both engine and leisure batters on EHU, normaly only leisure charges unless you have something extra fitted to your system that allows for both to be charges simutainesly, only the engine charges both batterys, even my m/h only charges the leisure battery when on EHU, sounds like you need some gadget to be able to charge both when on EHU or even solar. Can't speak for all Hymer models, but the B544 (2004) charges both leisure and starter batteries when on EHU. The leisure battery gets about 14v and the starter battery about 13v.

Our 2010 Chausson Flash S2 only charges leisure battery on hook-up, but our previous 2004 Rapido, did the cab battery too. :thumb:

On my van the leisure batteries are charged and when full switches over to the vehicle battery. It can be changed over by pushing button on control panel.

Seems to be a movable feast, as both my current Hobby and previous Burstner charged both engine and leisure batteries on hook-up automatically without the need for any switching.

And our 99 Hymer E690 is exactly the same, and all MH makes mentioned in the above two quotes have the Schaudt Elektrobloc fitted, which charges both banks of batteries simultaneously. Ours is a 16 A charger, but I believe the newer models have a higher charge rating.
The pressing of the rocker switch for Batt 1 or Batt 2 (Schaudt panels) indicates the charging voltage for each bank. When not on charge, the same switch indicates the actual voltage in each bank.

I am sure that the Schaudt systems are not fitted to UK built MHs. Zig, Sargent, CEC, and Plug In Systems, are the only ones I am aware of.

Regards,

Jock.
