I have 2 x 110amp batteries. If one is faulty would the voltage on the meter simply show the voltage on the good onr or a combination? What I am asking is the voltage meter would nit indicate any issues. Therefore how do you test the batteries?

The meter will show the voltage of both, Dave, if they are still connected. Only by removing a lead on each one, and using a multi-meter, will you find the 'bum' battery, unless you know which one feeds your van meter. One battery will have 'dropped' a cell, taking it down to 10 volts. The other battery will constantly try to feed the duff one, and bring it up to 12 volts (12.5) again.
