Broken Link Removed on this recently, seems the Peterborough show has brought it up again. Had another look at one at Don Amott's Leisure World on our way to Old Trafford on Monday - did I mention we won the Premiership again? :ROFLMAO:

They had one just in which we could have had at £39k plus a good change over price, have to go to back to Becks to see if they can match it as they're closer to home. But, is a month before a channel crossing a sensible time to buy a new van with potential teething troubles to come? It's 3' longer than our Starspirit and 8" wider, do you notice that extra width and the overhang affecting anything?

I had a Stardream before the 740. I hated the 740 for the first few miles getting used to the extra width - narrow roads around the supplying dealer. Not only is the body wider, but the mirrors are also wider than the standard long mirror arms. I did not find the extra length was not a problem.
However, after 6mths and 3k miles I have got used the 740.
The only issue I have had with it is the payload. After loading the van I took it to the weighbridge and while all axle weights were well under, the gross was only 60kgs below maximum. I have now uprated the van to 3850kgs.
Other than that, its a good van.

We picked up our 745 last ear, 4 days before we left on a 5 week trip to Northern Germany. We have a good dealer and trusted them to do a good PDI which they did. Found the van easy to drive, didn't regret changing from the Lunar at all and haven't found the extra width a problem.

As we stood looking at the Bailey a couple of guys in suits next to us appeared to be criticising the overhang and payload issues with conversions in general and warned us of trusting the brochures. Turned out they were from SVTech and were about to give a seminar on the subject in the main hall.

Question: I imagine there are licence issues at 70 but what do they do to uprate the payload and any idea of cost?

Bailey Approach 740

Hi Lippo,

I went looking at motorhomes just last weekend, and have pretty much decided to go for the Bailey Approach 740. It feels light and airy, not at all cramped, and as soon as I sort out completion on the house sale, I'll be sorting out my new Bailey home.

This will be my very first motorhome, and like you I'm excited to go pick it up...then off to who-knows-where!

Good luck, hope you enjoy it.

Hi Jules 39. We have had our Bailey 740 for 16 months now. Our 4th motorhome and by far the warmest. Very pleased with it. Hope you enjoy your new home as much as we enjoy the Bailey.

Rolfarris,

Uprating my van to 3850kgs (via SvTech) just cost me £315 which was just a paper exercise. If I wanted to increase it to just over 4000kg I would have had to add air assist rear suspension and replace the rear tyres, another £1500 - £2000. The good news is that the VEL goes down from £215 to £160.

500kg of payload is a lot of stuff, where do you put it all, my 740 fully loaded still has 300kg of payload.

If it was 500kg then it would be ok, but that is with a 75kg driver. Going away as a couple, I alone with a full fresh water tank ( I use aires ) aboard takes care of another 200kg. Add a bit of food, an awning, an additional liesure battery, a couple of push bikes, clothes etc it soon mounts up. A couple of overhead lockers are empty, the under sofa storage only has light stuff in and only the screen blocker poles and a couple of light chairs are under the bed. Hardly a lot. Never mind, all sorted now. :thumb:

I'm still surprised with all that that you exceed the weight. The MRO includes 90% full tanks and I really don't think you way that much!!

As you say it all adds up I suppose

I'm stunned when I first got the Bailey it weighed in at 3115kg, I've just weighed it again with a full water tank and it's 3420kg with no clothes and no wife so no idea whats added the weight but I have a problem so thank you Vic, i need to think about replating.

Looks like I've got that pleasure to come next week then? Extra battery, awning plus a satellite dome and a couple of tv's minus the bike rack, be interesting.

With the water tank full that would add 100kg so where has the rest come from? You might need to reduce the amount of water by the weight of the wife.

The water is supposed to be included in the MRO

Pete,

No, the axle weights have stayed the same. You can increase the rear axle weight by about 200 - 250kgs, but that involves air assist suspension and new tyres.

A couple of weeks down the line and we've had the Bailey home for a few days.

We've got the wind out awning, Camos sat dome and an extra leisure battery added by the dealer and on the weighbridge yesterday I measured 1460 on the front, 1600 rear and overall was 3060kg. That answered a query, on this occasion at least, as to whether front and rear does add up to gross, I seem to remember a physics question about a standing leg effect transferring weight, or something.

So, on with the 2000w inverter, an extra socket or two and finding where to stow the heaps of stuff that came of the old one and then it's off to France and beyond next week, and that slap up meal that Ivy and Sandy promised us in Paris. :roflmto:

Hello and welcome.

I have a 745se and have had it for 13 months. In that time I have lived in it except for a 6 week break back to Australia. No serious faults in all that time ( 22,000 miles )

Have fun and I am sure you will love the Van.:thumb:

right bit the bullet and traded our autotrail for a brand new bailey 745,had it about 2 weeks now and it is just fine only 1 problem our new avtex L186drs telly does not like the sat dome, its a glomex, you get a good signel but the screen keeps going black for a sec then comes on again then black again, the dealer is on the case with avtex they think it may be a software problem with the glomex as it works fine if i use my old sat box and not the tellys sat receiver,
when i weighed the bailey with every thing in it,ie clothes food water all the bits and bobs the wife dog sat dome extra batt solar panel awning ect 20kgs over so if i dump most of the water should be fine then off to europe for a month hopefully with the telly working ::bigsmile:::bigsmile:
