I have an Echostar PVR, a good bit of kit which has a USB port for transferring recordings to hard drives and memory sticks.
Downsides -:
1) I don't want to take the PVR away in the van, 230v power lead, HDMI cable, bulk etc. A solid state USB hard drive is my ideal.

2) Transferring recordings takes time.

3) The output format of the PVR is in .ts format, Avtex will not play this format even when the engineers code is used to change the settings.

4) There is a great piece of freeware that will change .ts files to MPEG4 but this takes 30 minutes to change a 60 minute recording. Windows PC required and a bit of file juggling needed. The freeware is here for anyone interested, http://download.cnet.com/Free-TS-Converter/3000-2194_4-75738853.html

The result is that it takes time to download and convert files, 2 processes. Is there a better way to achieve this, for example is there a PVR with a USB output in MPEG4 format? Expensive but thinking of an upgrade PVR with catch-up TV.
Thanks.
