Since 2008 & many years tugging
Worth investigating further with it wobbling about when driving could have been a fair bit of vibration transmitted to the electronics, could a loose connection or dry joint on the PCB. Failing that I am wondering if there is any way of doing an electronic reset or may be worth configuring a satellite on one of the user ports and see if that works.
Still might be worth programing one of the user ports it tells you how in the manual.

Mine worked Great for about 15 months.
Are the issues you have recently described with the unit not parking/play in the mechanism and not locking on to sat occurring at 15 months after purchase? If so, are you not covered by the 2 year warranty?

Is this classed as electrical equipment though?

The Snipe was sold as "The Avtex Snipe" by Roadpro.
They have refused a claim & referred me to Avtex who have refused a claim stating that it only has a one year warranty, despite their warranty statement.

Unless Avtex can prove some manner of improper installation/usage as the causal factor for the issues incurred, I would think you have a warranty case.

Interestingly, at the P'Boro show Roadpro said that one of their branded small dishes came with a 5 year warranty, but on the website the same item stated 2 years. May just have been a web admin error/oversight though.

If you have registered to benefit from the additional two years on top of the 12 month standard warranty.

To register, you have to provide Avtex with the serial number. As I said earlier, that this is I guess to stop Avtex giving additional warranties on Snipes that they didn't distribute.

Did you apply for the additional two year warranty with Avtex?

Hi all, we have a standard snipe fitted by Auto additions Ltd of Derby, I can fully recommend them. Speak to Tyronne the owner who will advise you on the best one. we have used our standard snipe from the shoreline of Loch Ness to the Loire Valley in France, no problem.

Just returned the Snipe we purchased in April 2015 under warranty for repair/exchange due to a repetitive grinding noise, presumably coming from the motor/gearing mechanism (other than this it has worked very well).

Also noticed the more recent Snipe 2 seems to be a significant overhaul of the original version:-

Advantages of the new SNIPE 2 compared to its predecessor model SNIPE 1

  • New Construction: No mechanical damage when lifting the antenna from it's carry case. Improved Home position incl. Locking system ensures a firm and secure grip while driving.
  • New Mechanics: The durability of the transmission has been greatly improved by the use of die-cast aluminum.
  • New engine: The new powerful engine, reinforced with a 18: 1 ratio, has a high torque and provides for the alignment of less noise.
  • New Controller: The new controller can store up to 13 satellites. Through the LCD display to the user all the information displayed easily and clearly. Firmware updates can be performed directly on the controller with a USB stick now very easy, without the controller must be connected or removed on the PC.
I have no connection with Red Apple Digital other than having purchased our Snipe through them online, but I can confirm they are are both competitively priced and very supportive should issues arise requiring warranty attention.

Finally, after a year of deliberating, we've had our snipe 2 fitted (also supplied by Red Apple) and it works brilliantly. Admittedly we're only away in Cambridgeshire so don't know how it'll perform in France when we go on holiday in September, but so far we'd fully recommend it

Fitted the Snipe 2 to our van today, very noticeable difference in how quiet/smooth the motion of the new unit is in comparison to the original version. Quickly located and locked on to Astra 2. Now we'll have to see how robust/reliable the thing is over a few trips...

We've not been to Europe with the Snipe 2, but the Snipe 1worked OK at Parc Verger in mid 2015 (furthest South we went on that trip). No issues to report with the Snipe 2 thus far, it has worked consistently in the U.K. when we've been out an about here.
