It sounds like your faulty box may have had a hand in it!

You should get all the BBC's ITV' Channel Fours and Channel 5's and all derivatives two thirds of the way down through France dropping off at the mountain borders into Spain and Italy

If you drew a arc with Bordeaux and Lyon North of that you should have no problems

If you take a Sky box then you should be able to enjoy your subscribed channels a lot further a filed

Thank eddy but dont have a sky box as don't watch much tv at home.
free view is enough for me, as tv is clogged up with soaps until 9pm at night.
That's when I am allowed out of my man cave.

Just to update everyone who kindly responded to my question. We are currently in northern France and the system works. Better than it has in England. I was mindful of parking somewhere to get a clear shot to the SE and the only time we had a problem was when the weather was bad. At Yport we could not get BBC but fine everywhere else.
