When everything works as it should from new I would say that it was a Classic

I think it must be 40 years, as the ex bully club chappy reintroduced the rolling 40 year qualification for classic car tax in his budget a week ago, absolutely spiffing what ? :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:
( I can get the 1974 MG out of the barn now )

Age doesnt actually make a classic....its a combination of many things, except for classic insurance and they have their own ideas.

    styling, collectability, uniqueness etc.

vintage and veteran are age related.

This should help ----- or not as the case may be:Rofl1:

Except for most pre-wars cars there is not a standard definition as to what constitutes a classic car. Does it matter that there is no clear view?
For very old vehicles, typically built before about 1930, there are clear definitions. Vintage (before 1905), Edwardian (1905 to 1918) and Veteran (1919 to 1930) all have formal, and widely accepted, definitions. It is similar elsewhere with Classic and Full Classic in the USA.
Classic Car is Widely Used but a Poorly Understood Term, Old Cars Are Classics

It seems to be fully accepted that any car more than 25 years old qualifies as a classic. However it becomes less clear with younger models.
Insurance companies (UK) tend towards using 20 years or older as the qualifying age for special classic car insurance. The UK tax authorities use 15 years as cut-off between modern and classic cars when assessing them for taxation on benefits in kind but they also add a current value to that judgement of £15,000
In the USA authorities use an age threshold of around 15 years and require the vehicle to be substantially in the form it was manufactured; presumably to rule out Hot Rods, Custom cars and also exclude replicas which are really new vehicles.
All age based definitions use the age of the particular car not when the model came into or went out of production. With the lower age definitions it is possible for some examples of a current production car to be considered classic, although usually only for niche marques such as Morgan.

Does anyone know anyone with a Ford Classic (saloon) or MkI Capri (occasional 4 seater LOL) ? Cos they were obviously both Classics from new. But not classics of course.

But they'd all certainly qualify by age as classic now anyway, but there again people would probably think you were bats if you said you owned a classic Classic Capri !

I think mine is a classic in terms of uniqueness
The French don't order vans over 3500kg so to have a combination of a left hand drive on a 4250kg chassis with 3 litre auto on a 7 series Rapido is pretty individual. This is apart from my total remodelling

I had Classic car insurance for my '75 VW Kombi which I bought in 1997, so about 20 years appeared to be the guideline at that time. I always envied the pre Dec 1973 vehicle owners who didn't have to pay Vehicle Excise Duty. Did they ever roll that forwards?

Does classic mean - old popular models that we always remember.

I always see the old Talbot MH variants as classics
