Some months ago we had a flight to Nepal cancelled for a trip we were hoping to take over Christmas. It was proving difficult to rebook this flight so we cancelled the trip.

Our Norwegian friends have been asking us to visit them in Norway and so when our trip was cancelled we booked a flight to do so.

WELL that flight is tomorrow! We take my mum back to Alicante for a morning flight and we fly to Bergen in the afternoon.

We are leaving this:

Martin and mum yesterday at Puerto de Mazarron

And the forecast for Bergen for the next few days, (and the rest of the week is more of the same).

The forecast for the time of the flights is wet with gale force winds.

Are we crazy??? We have to go our friends have made arrangements for us.

We'll send piccies of our Norwegian holiday. May make some of you feel happy about your own weather :xrofl::xrofl::xrofl:.

We thought about cancelling this morning for a few minutes but when we contacted our friends and found out that they had made arrangements for us, and strangely, were looking forward to us arriving, we decided we had to go!

I love Norway although I've only been a couple of times and never with the MH. One trip was described as a "Summer Mountain Leaders" course, it snowed heavily almost the whole time! Wonderful place and great folk. Watch the original Troll Hunter film before going to get you in the right mood!

You will have a wonderful time although I guess will have to wear a few more layers than normal. :xsmile:

You also have the added bonus of coming back from Norway to somewhere warm. :xgrin:. Have a lovely time.

We loved Norway when we were there, and Bergen is very good as far as cities go, it's the countryside and the fjiords that are spectacular, even in the rain.

We are having three days in Bergen in our friends apartment overlooking the harbour and then three days in their mountain cabin if we can get there in the snow! They are used to driving in such conditions and have assured us we will be able to get near enough to walk the last part!

Well, our friends took us for a walk around Bergen. We were well wrapped up and started off being very hot, but were glad of all the clothes later on. We were amazed at the number of electric cars we saw, BMWs, VWs and many others. They are easy to spot because the registration number starts with EL.

We had a stroll through the old town area of Bryggen and a wander through the narrow lanes between the houses. Not a straight line to be seen and all the wooden properties are protected with sprinkler systems.

We had almost every weather possible, rain showers, hail and even sun.

This evening we are eating here and two other Norwegian friends have been invited. Santa will be one Reindeer short because we are having part of one for dinner!!!

Today we were taken for a walk up one of the seven mountains that Bergen is known for. We walked up a trail that is used for a race in summer. The best time for the route is just under 8 minutes. We walked up in 20!

The view from the top is back down to Bergen.

And another view of the north part of Bergen from later in the walk.

Photos taken on mobile phone so it struggles with the bad light.

And last the descent. We took the easy option to save Eli's knees and returned via the funicular.

Tonight's dinner is "Funny fish" Lute Fisk a Norwegian delicacy that is an acquired taste apparently!
