very thorough test then JJ (y)

It is all done with machines, dials and digital read outs here!

Position 1, headlight test and emissions.

2. Front brakes

3. Rear brakes and hand brake.

4. Onto the "metal plates" and wiggle steering.

5. Onto the "metal plates" and wiggle rear wheels.

Park over on the right and collect your new paper.

I am delighted it needs an hgv test here.

One doesn't book mot's. You just turn up and queue at the test station.

There were about 12/15 cars waiting in their line but I was the only hgv. It was all over in 30 mins for me!

Just interested to know if the UK are more strict with the HGV test, as 15 mins doesn't seem that long considering it takes an hour here for a car and IMO a HGV is more dangerous on a road than a car or is that the time it would take here for a HGV(y)

Over an hour for a MOT?

Really?

Never, ever had one take me that long.

Todays event consisted of...

Rolling road for brake tests.

Those wiggle plate thingies to check steering joints etc.

Emissions test machine.

Beam testing box.

Visual check of chassis condition, all lights, wipers, washers etc.

Please tell me... What did he miss out?

Here the test stations don't do ANY repairs. They won't even change a bulb.

They are never looking for ways to earn any extra money...

(And don't forget my Hymer is perfect. It is only 29 years old, so it is practically brand new.)

To be honesty haven't got a clue about what could have been missed, don't know nothing about cars/vans that was the reason for my question
Just googled how long an MOT is for a car and the Halfords site said between 45-60 minutes, btw I never said over an hour
But glad it passed, pretty impressive for 29yrs old

UK MOT Test takes best part of hour on a car .. and they are very stringent.. more so than they used to be.. no bad thing. not many old bangers on the roads these days..

All things the Same as here & Portugal I believe. The time saving here is that the person taking vehicle for the test stays in the vehicle & does all the lights on/off braking . ,horn etc; etc; leaving tester to watch & instruct from outside.
When it gets to wobble plates which impose front/rear & then side to side extreme loadings on all the suspension , steering ,brakes etc ; the tester is underneath & instructs driver via an intercom when to apply brake , move steering etc;
Additionally the first thing the actually check is that all items that are on the registration document are actually there. I.E. in my cars case, tow-bar, bull-bar, auto gearbox(?) sun roof (?) etc, etc. Then, that the wheel & tyre size are the same as stated on the vehicle details.
It is a conveyor belt system. Some days far busier than others. Pays to ensure you bought a vehicle here in a "quiet" registration time .lol

Congratulations yet more proof of the quality of the older Hymer.

As for the MOT why should it take an hour in Portugal just because it takes an hour here.
We have this arrogant attitude in the UK that we do everything better than the rest of the world.
If my travels have taught me one thing its that this is a total myth. Far from being the best we are lagging behind many countries in lots of areas and not just in Europe either.
