My solar controller and also my inverter/charger give an 'on charge' voltage of 14.4v.

Is this OK for the batteries for this voltage to be maintained constantly?

in a word....No !

14.4volts is a de-sulphation charge rate and it will boil the battery if left at that voltage.

just a thought......how are you reading this voltage ?

my sophisticated solar charger ups the voltage to 14.4v for 2hrs every 30 days to condition/de-sulphate the battery

Good question. This is from the LCD on the solar regulator. I must check with a meter.
