Recently took out a Europe annual policy 90 days with LV..
Cost me £112 and that includes cover following my heart operation...
I am also on Blood pressure tablets and Cholestorol meds, no problems with either but prescribed as a precaution..

Staysure was ok but a bit dearer..

Annual Woldlwide Joint cover, including a cruise which was an add on, cost us £212 from Covered2go, they give you a seperate number to call for medical screening and the £30 odd cost was included in that price. I think ours was a max of 45 days but they will do more, and they had no problem with certain medical conditions which were turned away elsewhere (it's my wife's horns they didn't like).

I really wonder whether Travel insurance in the EU is actually worth the paper it's written on? yes OK if you do have a Medical Emergency - you do have to make it clear that you need to go to a State-run hospital, in which case your EHIC covers you though you have to fund it until you get back to the UK and reclaim it, and if there is a co-pay on the drugs or the treatment in that country, you don't get the co-pay back.

BUT!!!! I discovered the other day when clicking on a Link on MHF that someone had suggested - a lot of insurance cos ALSO exclude the co-pay bits, plus will not pay anyway if you could have gone to a state-run establishment and got it (nominally) free of charge! - so they still don't pay, in other words.

Good, innit?

I was actually quite impressed with them because they asked 'intelligent' questions about the medical conditions - not stupid ones. EG when you have something chronic (eg my diabetes) you do have pre-arranged hospital clinic appointments. It doesn't signify - just because I happen to have one arranged for December - it's absolutely par for the course, a 6 monthly regular thing - it does not mean there's anything extra or different for anyone including me to worry their little heads about, it's purely routine. So this co asked if I had any appointments other than routine ones, planned. So I said No - which means they wouldn't load it any more than just the nominal amount. Other cos automatically exclude that condition if you answer truthfully and say you have ANY appointment booked for that thing.

I have found also that on multi-trip most cos limit to 91 days, whereas you can do any length of trip as a single trip - so I'll have to look at the C&CC. But I'll be looking at what they exclude EHIC-wise - oh and the age limits! - thought I'd found a cracker a while ago then realised Pete was already too old at 67 !before I even venture into the depths of my pre-existing conditions.

Thanks

It's only the Single trip that I said they do 'no length' - although I didn't actually check it to see how long they really did TBH, before I look (I think it may have been CWH who posted it) - is it 'Single Trip' you actually want?

Its to cover 8-10 months out of the uk, travelling europe and morocco. It is a single trip for us but covers multiple countries.
Just want to make sure we get a valid policy before paying.
Had cover last two years, but only for up to 90 days a trip so not convinced it would pay if needed.
Really it is just for medical emergency cover. Current conditions well under control.

Look at some of the bank schemes with free travel insurance, they can be really reasonable if you do your sums first. We do ours through our NatWest account and get 90 days and slight extra premium for pre existing conditions like yours. It also includes phone and breakdown insurance for our cars but you do need to work it out carefully or it could be more expensive. I think Nationwide also do a similar scheme and I believe their breakdown insurance includes motorhomes so could be worthwhile. Check the Martin Lewis Moneysaver website

I found Staysure to be a bit of a joke.
They covered me for 8 months when we first left on a European tour and then when we returned and wanted to do the same again for our next tour they told us that because we had been out of the country for more than 6 months, they wouldnt cover us again. Basically, punishing us for being out of the country for so long, which after all is what they "specialise" in. Weird!
So, beware.... By all means take out their extended (over 6mnth cover), but note that you will not be able to take a follow-up insurance with them unless you wait another 6. Months before your next trip. Most might find that okay but we like to keep moving!!,

The Lloyds Bank cover was what we had until they increased the small extra payment to a large extra payment - increased from an extra £30 to an extra £300 !!! Bearing in mind there is only tuppence in the account and we don't use it otherwise, only kept it on because of the insurance (we changed to a Santander 123 account a while ago) that means they were already getting the £25 monthly account fee ONLY for that policy (since every other add-on is already adequately covered elsewhere) that meant the total premium was £600, so we told them to get knotted. They therefore excluded ALL pre-existing for the £300 now ......

I've just renewed with Insure and Go, Annual policy for me and the missus, 90 day worldwide £71. They wanted to up the premium by 30% as I have high blood pressure, but I declined that and it's an exclusion now.

With regard to the EIHC posts above, I looked at the policy wording. With this policy you are expected to go to a public hospital. If you use your EIHC card they waive the medical excesses.

Wording:
If you are admitted to a public hospital, you should present your
EHIC to the hospital; if you are unable to do so, you must cooperate
with the medical assistance department in order to
obtain one.
If your EHIC is presented to the treating doctor or hospital when
receiving medical treatment within the European Union and the
medical costs are reduced, the policy excess applicable under
section A (Medical and other expenses) will be waived.
