Andorra...
Go if you have never been just to see the scenery..

Fuel, fags and alcohol cheap, everything else forget it..
The last 2 items are limited and police do check at both borders, although Spanish side is better than the French one...

Only ever stayed at a campsite just outside on the Spanish side, nothing special and not really cheap.. I have heard that sites in Andorra can be pricey and cramped but others may have better info.

Generally speaking "free parking" and "wild camping" are prohibited throughout Andorra but off season you may find a quiet corner to park sensibly. We stayed at a camp site for just an overnighter last May (2012) within walking distance of La Vella. Good, not great, facilities all in about €20. As Steve (Tonka) said, if you are around there....go for the scenery etc., booze and fags and wine are a bonus but do not go mad as each time we have visited Andorra, in MH or car we have been searched entering Spain for compliance with regs......... maybe 'cos we got Spanish plates.

Follow link for details and GPS stuff.

Don't buy any jewellery. We bought some gold chains, later we found one was only plated. Apart from that everything is fine, the views are great and brandy is cheap. Also enjoy the mad French drivers going to fill up their cars with cheap petrol. The first time I was overtaken by one on the approach to a blind bend, and with a drop of several hundred feet on one side I had to fetch my brown trousers :ROFLMAO:

Not Long
There is no problem to ark overnight in Andorra. Many vans do it during the ski season, most of the parkings have a limit of 48 hours but if you want to be away from it all then just drive up to the ski stations as they are now closed.
There are parking spaces dedicated to camper vans in Andoraa la vella..its the biggest car park there but the entrance is a bit iffy.

Beware, its still snowing so you will need your winter kit.

Entering Spain is worse in terms of being checked than France. The Spanish check everyone...the French just pull out a few here and there depending on their mood. But then if you drive on Andorran plates you dont get stopped at all....

There are 2 huge supermarkets on the main road just before the Spanish border. The biggest is now owned by E Leclerc, the French chain. You will find things in here at the silliest prices ever. But before you go mad check the customs rules. Its not just tabac and alcohol that has limits, there are many other products too.

Get off the main road and the scenery is lovely. Food is also great and not expensive, although you will struggle to find everything open as its now mid season.

Have fun

We have stopped at Pas de la Casa on several occasions with numerous other motorhomes, usually in a thunderstorm.

Camping Cheque site just across border (200 yds) on Spanish side. Take your legal duty free allowance through in the van and then you can catch bus outside the site (La Frontera) as many times as you like back into Andorra for more. BUSBY::bigsmile:

As far as we are concerned, Andorra was vastly over-rated. The first bit driving down from France was fine but once we got to La Vella, which was very busy and not at all pretty - lots of concrete, nothing old, nowhere to park, etc it got steadily worse as we went towards Spain. Endless featureless ski stations left us cold and, although we hadn't bought anything on our way through, Spanish customs went right through our van. We won't be going back. Hope you find more there than we did.

Another resurrection! Four members no longer here, but when we went couple of years ago we stopped on an acsi site within walking distance of the centre of town, no discount but wasn't dear as I remember, there's also an aire but it's out of the way a bit.

We've been a couple of times - during the summer 10 years ago, we looked for a campsite but ended up staying in a hotel B&B for around £15 a night for two people plus breakfast.

Brought back some happy memories from years ago, bought a bottle brandy to light the barbecue as it was cheaper than barbecue lighting fluid. It worked a treat tasted not to bad either.

Love or hate the place (love, cheap booze, fags, petrol, hairpins, mountains and mountains, views, scenery, food : hate, Andorra la Vella concrete jungle & one way, day tourists).

Personally I've been to the place many many times on the Motorbike and out of town it's really lovely, even the summer closed ski resort areas are quiet.

If overcrowded towns are your thing, steer clear of the copy jewellery and the Tasers. Good quality M/Bike kit is cheaper than UK though. Watch the rules on importing to France / Spain. The Spanish do more checking than France but don't be tempted to try and bring 000's of litres of wine or 000's of fags across.

Anyway, out of Andorra la Vella, up the hill towards La Masana, turn left towards Pal and Xixeralla to the very end of the road where it turns into the dirt track. The dirt track is actually the start of the (in)famous "Smugglers route" into Tor and Spain (well worth a Google). It's a heavy dirt track just about doable on road bikes but completely unsuitable for M/H. Anyway this where we will be stopping next year on our Pyrenees Motorhome tour next year (amongst others).

Off the same road to Pal etc but not as far up. This is a Ski resort dead end, cracking views.

3rd thoughts here La Rabassa up past Aixirivall.

where you can hire Quadbikes and ride off-road up to the mountain Pic Negra. I'd like to show my wife where we scattered some of our good Friends Ashes (RIP Tommo).

We once went to Andorra in winter and nearly died.
There can a lot of snow in the Pyrenees in winter, watch the weather carefully or take snow chains.
Great roads but we didn't think much of Andorra - too busy, parking's a nightmare and too many tourists.
There is an Aire on the French side at Ax-Les Thermes.
We were very grateful for it after the horrendous drive we'd had down the mountain in a snow storm.
We were not surprised to see loads of skier going of from their motor-homes the following morning.
