ha ha thats one of my posts, stanley was my grandfather. Its Peter the Belgian I cannot find out anything about, I'm guessing 2 world wars destroyed the Belgian records but the must still be a record of him entering the country and maybe leaving it again, can't find them thats what is strange.

Thanks Janine, not seen this cencus before but do have those details apart from change of address. The probate record gives the exact date of Peter Henery's death which I did not have.
Peter Henry (no idea of his wifes name) had a daughter, Irene joan who married Arthur Reginald Mayo in Exeter Cathedral 14 February 1944. and I have no further information of that line. I know she had polio as a child and was in a wheelchair, no idea if she had children or what happened to the family.
It amazes me the rescourcefullness of funsters. Many thanks for the help.

Peter Henry married in Devenport in 1909 (which goes with the Naval record) but I haven't worked out his wife's name yet.

this one is particularly interesting as Peter last appeared in the voters list in 1930 it is the last mention of him in the UK if he then Emigrated back to Belgium that would answer some questions.
Is it possible to get any more info, like full name place of birth etc., to establish it was him am happy to pay for the record. But being a Belgian citizen would he appear in immigration records after all he was just returning home.

Trying to trace my Grandfatheris a nightmare. My Dad never knew his father but the name stuck in his head all his life although he was brought up by a step father. It turned out his step father threw away any notes and photos his Mum had.We have got as far as finding 1 person with this name and he was a flight sgt with Polish 300 squadron and flew Lancasters. He aws killed in jan 1946 and there are far to many coincidence for it not to be him.Trouble is we cant find ant more and have hit a brick wall.I would be grateful if any Funsters know of any links where as to look. The clock is ticking and i would love to gather as much as i could, even go as far as finding relatives and asking if i could dna to prove a connection.Any ideas are most welcome.

Know how you feel, No one talked about HIM, Only found out his name and history cause my mother talked to my Niece, who was in similar circumstances, I took it up from there.
I took my Fathers name in 1971, by deed poll in Wellington

I suppose I'm lucky that both sides of my family were all born within a 10 miles radius dating back to the 1600's!

No skeletons in the cupboard, a couple died in the workhouse and my 2x gt grandfather died in the Rounds Green Pit disaster of 1846 when his wife was pregnant with my great grandfather.

On my Mums side everything is hunky dory,my parents divorced when i was a young teenager and Mum moved to the Midlands with my 2 sisters in tow.He lives alone and i get to see him when i can.Must be so lonely to have no other living relatives,i am trying to get him to sell up and move closer to us.

I've heard it said that family stories are often true.

My maternal Granddad insisted that he was descended from the French - I would love to prove that link but it's way back in time.

I forgot that I do have an Irish 2x gt grandfather on my Dad's side but no-one ever mentioned him! No chance of finding out where he came from as the records were mostly lost in 'the troubles'.

My Mother in law has hit a brick wall regarding the Irish side of their family,as you stated alot of the records were destroyed.

My Dad has had some news regarding the man we think was his Father. He sent off and payed for some records and we have found the said person was stationed in several places on the same dates as my Grandmother. Ive not yet spoken to my Dad but feel its far to much of a coincidence for it not to be him. I dont think my Dad could have dreamt up a name like Flt.Sgt. Wladyslaw Robaszewski .
