Just joined . Overwintering on the Algarve after 6 months touring in our little Bentley Indigo. Jenny and I have been on the road for over 15 years , full-timing for the first 5 . UK base is Altrincham , but you won't find us there when it's snowing ! We will start getting itchy feet when the weather gets too warm and we 'll head north.

Any mischief will be considered, especially if it includes live music, wine , humour or odd local celebrations !

    Hello from us two too:cheers:
My mum and dad have just come back from 10 days in Portugal. Worse rain they've ever experienced out there , for most of the holiday. Hope it's not as torrential in your bit!

Thanks for the good wishes , You sound like a nice crowd.

Sorry for Ralph and Bev's parents and all that rain. We only got 6 damp cloudy days in the Far Eastern Algarve .. After a dry summer , very much needed . Our cisterna was down to 2 weeks supply and the garden was baked hard as we'd been away since May.

Ok for water til Xmas ,now, and the ground is soft enough to work..... It's cost us a fortune in plants and now we're grafting away outside in the sunshine. Olives picked , Pomegranates next week.

The forecast is for no rain here 'til the Month-end... Tell the parents to get back down here !

    hi pauljenny,
we have just joined, see the intro page for more info.
we are planning to travel down to albufiera, leaving france in mid-november, by way of
santander, corunna. santiago de compostella, vigo, porto, lisbon and cape st. vincent.
any advice, help or good/bad experiences would be most welcome. we know that our question covers a lot of ground/subjects and while we are not wanting to interupt the pomegranate harvest, any info would be welcome.

Bon Voyage ! You are making our feet itch, looking at your itinary.

In our experience, everything north of Lisbon should be cold, damp and probably closed ,( campsites especially ), by mid Nov.

How long are you planning to stay ? Perhaps it would be better to visit those northern places next Spring , if you have loads of time. The Algarve winter usually kicks in Mid-Nov and the bulk of our rain must arrive
    between then and April .

If we were coming down for the winter at your planned time , we'd dash through France and Spain , Burgos and Salamanca and then take the motorway to Seville and Portugal.

Pay your motorway toll at the border crossing and overnight on the aire at Castro Marim. Then if you want the razzmatazz of Albufiera... crack off along the A22 motorway. Diesel is cheaper in Portugal than Spain, look out for the supermarkets . We just filled up at Intermarche , Sao Bras , at 121.4 €

There are plenty of opportunities for wild camping in both Spain and Portugal.. Avoid crowded places . 2 good websites are.... campercontact and campingcarportugal.pt.

Bring a Halifax Mastercard credit card or a Nationwide Flexclusive Saver Visa Debit card... best exchange rates and no commission. They are great for spending in big shops and fuelling.

Lidl does great wines ,but don't waste your money on the cheapest... 2.99€ buys a superb Ermalinda Reserva and good whites come in at under 2 €.

Hope you have as much fun as we did in this fascinating country. They have a history of liking the Brits, unlike France and Spain !

One last tip...... Try to get the basic Portuguese words and use them. If you have a language problem ... Use English ... If you shout at them in Spanish, you'll get a thumb in your soup and God knows what in your coffee !

    Have an adventure !

    Paul and Jenny
