My van has 16" fiat alloy wheels. I checked the spare and it is a steel wheel.
I recall reading something to the effect that the alloy bolts are a different length (longer) than the steel wheel bolts and it is not advisable to use alloy bolt if fitting a steel wheel.
Can anyone confirm / deny this?

We had alloy wheels on our Autosleeper and a steel spare. We also had a separate set of 5 wheel nuts, I assume for the steel wheel but no instructions how to use them. Luckily, we never needed to. It might be an idea to either contact your manufacturer or visit a wheel and tyre specialist and ask them for advice.

Generally it is fair to say it is safe to use bolts or nuts for Alloys on steel wheels but NOT the other way around. This is due to the added length of the stud or bolt to suit the thickness of the alloy wheel. Having said that I would say contact Fiat to check and generally if separate fixings are required they would be supplied as part of the spare wheel/ jack/ breakdown kit combination.

Most cars the Collar angle is different on bolts for alloys but I believe they are the same on the Ducato, only difference being bolts for alloys are a couple of mm longer.
@Techno should be able to confirm.

That would also be my advice, some do need separate bolts and some don't.

As well as different lengths they can also have different bevel profiles.

I asked this question when I picked up new van which has alloy wheels and steel spare and was told if alloys are factory fitted then bolts are correct for steel spare, but if not factory fitted may need 2 sets of bolts as the cup profile may be different.

We came across this on a Peugeot 108, spare wheel steel , when fitted bolts for alloys fouled brake inards and locked wheel up. Carried some steel spacers as temporary low speed fix. Need to check mine on Renault Master.
